This manuscript, now housed in the library at DAV College, Chandigarh, was previously situated in Hoshiarpur at the Vishveshvaranand Vedic Research Institute. Before that, it was in the Dayānanda Mahāvidyālaya Lālacanda Pustakālaya in Lahore. It is an incomplete manuscript of the Jātisamuddeśa — the first folio is missing, and it only extends up to verse 102. On the cover, it states that a microfilm of the manuscript taken by Wilhelm Rau has been deposited in the library. dyotyārthaniṣṭhaṃ ca dyotakatvam iti tad api kriyāpadāprayogād atra nāsti na ca kriyāpadākṣepakatvaṃ yathā prādeśaṃ viparilikhatīty atra Lca lekhanāsamanvayānupapatter mimātikriyākṣepakartvaṃ kārakavibhaktir hy atra prādeśam iti dvitīyeti yuktas tatsamucitakridhākṣepaḥ iha tu saṃhitām iti śaiṣikīyaṃ vibhaktir iti kathaṃ kriyākṣepaḥ kriyākārakayor eva pahasparam ākṣepyākṣepakabhāvasyāvinābhāvena nyāyyatvāt_ tad yathā praviśa piṃḍīm ityādau | nāpi saṃvaṃdhavācitvam atrānoḥ vibhaktyaiva tadabhidhānād iti saṃbaṃdhāvachedasya pratyāyako nānyaḥ saṃbhavatīti pāriśeṣyād anor atra sāmarthyam adhyavasīyate | tad uktaṃ | kriyayā dyotako yaṃ saṃvaṃdhasya na vācakaḥ | nāpi kriyāpadākṣepī saṃvaṃdhasya tu bhedakaḥ iti bhedako viśeṣako dyotaka ity arthaḥ | ayam atra bhāvaḥ | yad aānyathāsiddhaṃ tatrānor vyāpārakālpanā yuktā | yat punar anyathārthasāmarthyādinā sidhyati na tatra tasya śaktiḥ kalpayituṃ pāryate iti padāṃtarāṇām arthāṃtaraniveśat saṃbaṃdhaviśeṣasya tato navagatasya karmapravacanīyaviṣayatā siddhā | nanu ca yad atrādhikyaṃ vākyārthaḥ sa iti kriyāviśeṣajanitatvalakṣaṇaḥ saṃvaṃdhasyāvachedo vākyārthaḥ kim iti na kathyate anos tu paścāt_bhāvamātravṛttitvam eveti ||
|| atrocyate || || ihādhikyaṃ vākyārthatvenocyamānaṃ padārthapṛthaṣṭhapātitvenaivānusaraṇīyaṃ na tu padārthollaṃghanena tattadvākyopāttasya hi sādhyasya vā viśeṣyasya vopāttair eva sādhanair viśeṣaṇaiś ca saṃsargas tatrādhikyaṃ | tad yathā | gāṃ śuktām ānaya | nīlotpalam iti ca ata evocyate | āśrayāśrayiṇor vākyāt_ niyamas tv avatiṣṭhate iti | iyaṃ cāLnupāttasyaiva padārthasya vākyārthāt pratītir nāstīti na saṃvaṃdhāvachedo trāpadārtho vākyārthaḥ śakyate kalpayitum iti karmapravacanīyaviṣaya evāyaṃ | yad vakṣyati | nimittaniyamaḥ śabdāt saṃbaṃdhasya na gṛhyate | karmapravacanīyais tu sa viśeṣe varudhyate iti | atra ca darśanaradvayaṃ svarūpeṇaiva saṃvaṃdhānataravilakṣaṇakarmapravacanīyena saṃvaṃdho vachidyate kriyāviśeṣajanitatvena veti tatra svarūpeṇāvachede śeviṣakriyājanitatvapratītiḥ saṃbaṃdhiviśeṣaṣaryāpalocanālabhyā | tathā hi | adhi vrahmadatte paṃcālā iti svasvāmibhāvo 'aṃ saṃvaṃdha ity avidhinā vedyate | brahmadattaś ca svāmīśvaraḥ pāṃcālāś ca janapadasvam iti tayoḥ saṃbaṃdhinoḥ paripālanakarādānādikriyāprabhāvita ca saṃbaṃdho nyāyya ity avagamyate | evam abhimanyur arjunataḥ pratīti pratinā sādṛśyalakṣaṇo yaṃ saṃvaṃdha iti dyotyate | sa punaḥ saṃvaṃdhiśvasvarūpaparyālocanād atra saṃpraharaṇādikriyākṛta ity avagamyate | itthaṃ ca śākalya saṃhitām anu prāvarṣad ity atrāpi hetuphalabhāvo nāmāyaṃ saṃvaṃdha ity etāvaty evāyam anur viśrāmyati pāṭhaviśieṣarūpatvāt saṃhitāyā niśamanakriyāvagatiḥ śabdaśravaṇena hi devo varṣad iti saṃvaṃdhimahimno viśiṣṭaikriyāprabhāvitatvam ahavasīyate | kecid iyān anor eva vyāpāra ity āhuḥ |
svarūpāvachede pi ca kriyāyāḥ kāryabhūtasaṃvaṃdhāpekṣayātītatvāt karma proktavaṃta ity arthaḥ | samaṃ nety eva vastutaḥ kriphalasyaiva saṃvaṃdhasya prakāLśaśaśanāt_ yathā tu tatrabhavat_bhartṛhares tatra tatrābhiprāyo lakṣyate tathā nimittaviśeṣāvacheda eva karmaprakavacanīyakṛta iti rāddhāṃtaḥ | adhi vrahmadatte paṃcālā iti paripālanakriyāhitatvaṃ svasvāmibhāvasyādhinā vyajyate | abhimanyur arjunataḥ capra3tīty atra parājayādikṛto nukāryānukaraṇabhāvaḥ pratinā prakāśyata ityādi sarpavatratra yayojyaṃ | sustutam atistutam ityādau tu suḥ pūjāyām atir atikramaṇe cetyādinā karmapravacanīyasaṃjñā...dhikārikī svārthanirapekṣaipasargasaṃjñāvādhanāya pravartate | yathothoktaṃ | karmapravacanīyatvaṃ kriyāyoge vidhīyate | ṣatvādivinivṛtyarthaṃ svatyādīnāṃ hi dharmaṇām iti | arthena tu rūpeṇa vibhāge prastute kriyāviśeṣāvadyotakaātvād upasargapade svatyādir aṃtarbhavatiīti nāvyāptiḥ | tad evaṃ vākyād apodhriyamāṇasya padasyāpoddhārārthaviśeṣāśrayeṇa yathāsaṃbhavaṃ bhedo niraṃśakavākyavyutpatyupāyabhūtaḥ prarśitaḥ | ata eva svādipadaṃ vākyavyutpatyanaṃgatvāchāstre saṃketitaṃ suvaṃtaṃ padaṃ vyutpatyupāyabhūtaṃ neha gaṇanārhaṃ | prakṛtipratyayavad iti dṛṣṭāṃtapakṣanikṣiptam iti nāvyāptiḥ | padāt kilāsāv apoddhāro na vākyāt_ro na vākyāt_
tad itad itthaṃ padāpoddhāre pradarśite tadarthasyāpoddhṛtasya siddhasādhyarūpadvayayogino matabhedena svarūpopadarśanārtham āha||
padārthanāṃ apoddhārapadārthavicāraḥ | tathā hi | sarveṣām api śabdānāṃ padarūpāṇāṃ nāmākhyāta hi svabhāvāro jātir vā dravyam eva vā |
padārthau sarvaśabdānāṃ nityāv evopavarṇitau ||
arthadvāreṇa padaṃ parīkṣyata iti darśanabhedena prathamam apoddhārapadārthavicāraḥ padārthavicāraḥ | tathā hi | sarveṣām api śabdānāṃ padarūpāṇāṃ nāmākhyāta hi svabhāvā Ljātivādimate jātir evārtho na dravyam dravyavādimate tu dravyam eva na jātiḥ | dvitīyena vā śabdenapadārthāntaraṃ sūcitaṃ jātiviśiṣṭadravyābhidhānam iti | ata eva tad eva saṃkalanārūpaṃ padārthāv iti sphuṭīkṛtam | anyathā vārthe prakrānte cārthopasaṃhāro 'yaṃ nopapadyate tadvadabhidhāne ca anabhidhānaṃ tāvad dvayor api samānamviramya vyāpārābhāvāc chabdasyakārthas tu jātidravyayor guṇapradhānabhāvaḥ | yad vā prādhānyenaiva bhinnaṣayatayā pāṇinidarśane jātidravye śabdenābhidhīyete ity ayam atra pakṣaḥ padārthau ity uktaḥ | tatra nāmapadasya gaur ity āder gotvādijātiḥ niyatakriyā_viṣayasādhanaikārthasamavetasaṃkhyājātiviśeṣanabhāvam āpannā abhidheyā anāśrayāyā jāter anupapatteḥ | sāmarthyāt pratīstauṃtaṃ dravyam |
evam ākhyātapadasyāpi vibhinnakriyātnakṣaṇasamavetābhinnābhidhānapratyayahetukriyā jātiviṣayā sākṣād vācakaśaktiḥ | kārakāṃkādijātis tv atra guṇabhūtā nāmapadagatayā ca kārakajātyā kriyājātir ākhyātapadamagatā vyaktidvāreṇa samanvayam eti dravyajātis tv ekārthasamāavāyāt sādhanaśaktidvāreṇa kriyāyogam anubhavati saṃkhyājātir apy ekārthasamāvāyāt svavyakātmanā śaktimukhenaiva kriyānvayam etīti sarvapadārthasamānvayopapattau kalpate vākyārthaḥ yathā cotkṣepaṇādikṣaṇai saramayabhāvibhir apy āvṛttyotkṣepaṇatvādijātir a...vyajyate, tathā'dhiśrayaṇāLdibhiḥ kriyākṣaṇaiḥ pacatyādikriyājātir iti vicārayiṣyate | vyaktidvārakaṃ ...syā nityāyā api sādhyatvam upapadyate |

tad itthaṃ vājapyāyanācāryasatena sārvatrikī jātipadārthavyavasthopapadyate | vyāḍimate tu sarvaśabdānāṃ dravyam arthaḥ, tasyaiva sākṣāt kriyāsamanvayopapatter vākyārthāṅgatayā codanāviṣayatvāt yathāha |codanāsu ca tasyārambhāt iti | ekajātisamanvayavaśena cātra saṃketopapattiḥ | anabhidhīyamānāpi jātir upalakṣaṇīkriyate śabdārthe, yathā gṛhādau kākādiḥ | ākhyāte 'pi ca sādhanādhāradravyaprādhīnyaṃ vyāḍimate devadattaḥ pacatīti dravyeṇaiva sākṣāt sāmānādhikaraṇyopapatteḥ | kriyā tu guṇabhūtātra, vyāpārāviṣṭaṃ hi dravyam ākhyātārthaḥ ❈ idaṃ tad iti sarvanāmapratyavamarśayogyaṃvā dravyam iti sārvatrikīyaṃ vyavasthā tathā ca vakṣyati |dravyadharmā padārthe tu dravye sarvo 'rtha ucyate iti | ata eva ca śuklādīnām api dravyapadārthatā siddhā | tattadupādhivyavacchinnaṃ vā brahma dravyaśabdavācyaṃ sarvaśabdānāṃ viṣayaiti vakṣyata eva vyaktiparyāyo vā dravyaśabda iti | jātivyaktivikalpena sarvaśabdaviṣayaḥ tathā ca sarvaśaLbdānām ity abhidhānāt padād apy apoddhāre prakṛtipratyayarūpasyāpi śabdasya yathāyoyaṃ kriyākārakasaṃkhyādiapoddhārapadārtho jātivyaktibhedena samāmnātaḥ | ubhayasyāpi vā śabdāt pratīter ubhayaṃ padārthaḥ guṇapradhānabhāvabherthaśrayas tu matavikalpaḥ nityatvopavarṇanaṃ ca siddhe śabdārthasaṃbandhe ity atra bhāṣye yasmiṃs tattvaṃ na vihanyate itidravyasyāpi nityatvam, pravāhanityatayā śabdāt sadaiva vā pratīteḥ || 2 ||

yad vā saṃvaṃdhavyutpattikāle gaur avam arthāya ity arthajātyā śabdajāter atyaṃtabhedāt sāmānādhikaraṇyānyathānupapatyā'bhedādhyāropaḥ kalpyate yathā gaur vāhīka iti anyathā saṃketasyaiva kartum aśakyatvāt_ yathā cāyam anādir apauruṣeyo vācyavācakāabhāvaḥ tadādhyāropo pi | anyathā vācyavācakabhāva eva na ghaṭeta | yathā vauddhasya dṛśyavikalpārthaikīkāro bhedānadhya...vasāṃyalakṣaṇaḥ na tu yathā gaur vāhīka ity atra puruṣechayādhyāropaḥ vyavahāre śabdārthayoḥ sadaivābhedāvasāyāt katham iyaṃ prativarṇam anabhivyaktāsādhāraṇa jātir asamasamayabhāvibhi varṇair abhivyajyata iti cet_ yathotkṣepaṇamatvādijātir iti vrūmaḥ | tathā hi pratyekaṃ karmakṣaṇātanām upavyaṃjakatve pi yat prathamotkṣepaṇakṣaṇaḥ | sa paramāṇusādeśākramaṇāmātmarūpatvāt_ bhrasaṇākṣaṇā sārūpyavaśād anavadhāryamāṇabheda ekaiko 'samartho niyatajātyabhivyaṃjana iti kṣaṇāṃtaram apekṣate | na ca tasya bhramaṇakṣaṇād viśeṣo nāsti upakrama evotkṣipāmīty eva prayatvatnajanitatvāt | evaṃ gośabdam uccārayāmīty ayaṃ prayatno yady api gānagaganaśabdajanakāt prayatnaād anya eva hetubhedāc ca gakārayor api bheda eva vathāpi sādṛśyād asau duravadhāra iti vyaṃjako pi san_ prathamo dhvanir asphuṭam abhivyanaktīty āvartamāno pi rṇa viśadatarasāmānyaviśeṣābhivyakto hetuḥ yadāvayavaprabaṃdhaḥ krameṇopalabdho bhavati | atha śabdajātiviśeṣopādhiyuktā vyavahārā avatiṣṭhaṃte | tadānīṃ sāhacaryāt parasparāvachedavaśena vilakṣaṇatayā pratibhāsanāt | yathā ca ślokaḥ sakṛt paṣamāno nāvadhāryate | abhyāsena tu sphuṭāvabhāsaḥ tathā caramacetasi cakāsti rabhatnatatvavat sphoṭatattvaṃ prathamākṣereṇa hi jāter ābhāsamātraṃ janyate bhatataduttarottaravarṇakalāpena tu sphuṭatarasphuṭatamaparichedādhānaṃ tasaṃsmāraviśeṣotpādanadvāreṇābhivyaktiviśeṣasyasya ratnatatvādau daṣṭeḥ tasmāc chabdād arthaṃ pratipathāmaha iti vyavahārād varṇānām arthāvasāyajanakatvānupapatteḥ prakriyānaṃgasyā prathamakāṃḍa eva vihitatvān niravayaṃvaka pratyāyakaṃ śabdatatvaṃ Ljātivyaktibhedena bhinnasphoṭasvabhārvam evāṃgīkāryaṃ gaur ayam artha iti ca vācakābhedena vācyapratīteḥ tadadhyāsaścacitapur vyavavahāryo rthaḥ tatra ca svarūpasya vācyatā prathamakāṃḍa eva nirṇītā haiha tu saṃvaṃdhamuddeśe pi nirṇeṣyate |
