svasti || oṃ namo gaṇapataye ||
apaśabdas tv akṛta ity evaṃ yad bhavadbhir udghuṣṭaṃ tad eva tāvad vicāryate |
katham ayam apaśabdaḥ
kiṃ śabdalakṣaṇarahitatvāt
āhosvid arthapratipattyasādhanatvād iti |
kiṃ cātaḥ
yadi tāvac chabdalakṣaṇarahitatvād ayam apaśabda ity evaṃ vaktum abhipretaṃ tad ayuktam
śabdalakṣaṇopapannatvena pratīyamānatvāt
tathā hi śrotragrahaṇalakṣaṇas sāmānyavān arthaś śabda iti śabdasadbhāvād bhāvaviśeṣajñāḥ
tallakṣaṇopapannatvaṃ cāsya sakalajvarasākṣikatvena pratīyata eva |
anyathā hi tatsadbhāvasiddhir eva na syāt
na hy ayam apaśabdatvenābhimataś śabdaś śrotrād anyena pratipattuṃ śakyata iti |
athaivaṃ kadācin nigadyate
kila yad vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiḫ prāṇiniprabhṛtibhis sādhuśabdānāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ proktaṃ
tadrahitatvenāyam apaśabda iti |
tad etad apy asādhīyaḥ
tathā hi vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiẖ kiṃ śabdānāṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ proktam āhosvid viśeṣalakṣaṇam ubhaye vā
tan na tāvat sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ praṇītaṃ śrotragrāhyatvavad apratibhāsanāt tad yathā |
kaṇabhukpraṇītaṃ sāmānyavataḥ śrotragrāhyatvaṃ sarvaśabdānāṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ pramāṇenopalabhyate
naivaṃ sādhuśabdānām apy aśeṣavyaktyanugataṃ kiṃcid ekaṃ sāmānyabhūtaṃ vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiḫ praṇītalakṣaṇam upalabdhigocaratām upagacchati
tathā hi samāsalakṣaṇena vākyeṣv asti vākyalakṣaṇaṃ na ca samāseṣu tāthā kriyālakṣaṇaṃ na kārakeṣv asti kārakalakṣaṇaṃ na ca kriyāsv ity evaṃ sandhivigrahakṛttaddhitādilakṣaṇānām apy anyonyavargavyāpakatvenāsāmānyātmatā draṣṭavyeti
etenobhayalakṣaṇapraṇetṛtvaṃ pratyuktaṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇasambhave ubhayalakṣaṇavyavahāro pi durghaṭa eveti ||
atha viśeṣaṇalakṣaṇam eva sādhuśabdānāṃ pāṇinibhṛtibhiḥ praṇītaṃ
tadrahitatvenāyam apaśabdaḥ ity evaṃ kadācidvaṃ bhaṇīṣi tad atyanupapannam eva |
yasmād viśeṣalakṣaṇarahitatvena viśeṣavyavahāra eva nivāryatāṃ na śabdatvaṃ sādhutvaṃ vā taddhitalakṣaṇarahitatvena ca kṛtsu taddhitavyavahāra eva na nivartate |
śabdatvaṃ sādhutvaṃ veti |
yathā vā pratyakṣalakṣaṇarahitatvenānumānādau pratyakṣavyavyahāra eva Lna yukto na tu pramāṇavyavahāro pīti |
tasmād yathā pramāṇajñair nigaditaṃ pramāsādhanatvaṃ sakalapramāṇavyaktyanugatam apramāṇād vyāvṛttaṃ pramāṇasāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ yatsadbhāvāsadbhāvābhyāṃ pramāṇatadābhāsas tattvetaraviśeṣavyavasthāpanam upapadyate |
tadvad aśeṣaśabdavyaktyanugatam apaśabdād vyāvṛttaṃ śabdasāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ vaktavyaṃ yat sadbhāvāsadbhāvātvāṃ śabdāpaśabdapravibhāgo vyavatiṣṭhate |
na ca tathā lakṣaṇābhidhāyivyākaraṇaśāstrāntargataṃ kiṃ cid api sūtraṃ paśyāmas tatra vyākaraṇapraṇetṛpraṇītalakṣaṇāhitatvenāpy asyāpaśabdatvam iti |
atha samastasādhuśabdānugatam apaśabdād vyāvṛttaṃ sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmānyam eva sādhuśabdānāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ kaś cid vyācakṣīta tad etad asya nirūpitārthābhidhānaṃ
tat khalu sādhutvasaṃjñakaṃ sāmānyaṃ svayam asiddhamattārkaṃ katham anyasya vyavasthāpakaṃ syāt |
na hi hi tadastitve pramāṇaṃ kiṃ cid utpaśyāmaḥ |
tathā hi tāvad akṣavyāpāraje vijñāne sādhutvam ātmānaṃ prakaṭayati |
yathā ca kṣurādijanite vijñāne ghaṭatvavṛkṣatvagotvādi nīlatvamadhuratvoṣṇatvādi ca sāmānyaṃ sajātīyeṣv avāṃtarabhedabhinneṣv apy anugataṃ vijātīyebhyo vyāvṛttaṃ ca pratibhāti naivaṃ sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmānyam anugatavyāvṛttapratyayārūḍham atiyatnavṛto pi cakāsti |
yadi pratyakṣaṃ sādhutvaṃ sāmānyaṃ syāt tadā bhavatiśabde pṛcatiśabde vā sādhuśabdo yam ity evaṃ samayagraheṇa sati aprasiddheṣv api sādhuśabdeṣu śrūyamāṇeṣu sādhuśabdo yam iti pratītiḫ prādurbhaved ghavṛkṣagavādipratītivan na ca tathā bhavati
tasmān na sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmānyaṃ pratyakṣagocaratām āpādya kadācid apy ātmānaṃ prakaṭayati |
pratyakṣaniṣedhād anumānum api niṣiddhaṃ draṣṭavyam
anavadhāritaliṅgasaṃbandhasyānumātum aśakyatvāt
sāmānyato dṛṣṭam anumānam atra na saṃbhavaty eva |
sāmānyenāpi tatpratibaddhakāryādiliṅgānupalabdherr iti |
athācasādeva sādhutvam avagamyate ity evaṃ kadā cil lālapīpi tad etad api na pramāṇadṛṣṭim anusaradbhiḫ pramāṇīṃkriyate |
na hy ubhayavādivipratipattyaviṣayaẖ kaś cid āgamo pi sādhutvasadbhāvāvedaka upalabhyate |
yatas sādhutvaviniścayaḫ prādurbhāvam āsādayed vacanamātrasya ca sarvatra sulabhatvān na tato Lvivādagocarāpannārthaviniścayas saṃvatīti nāgamād api sādhutvādhigamaẖ kartuṃ yukta iti |
