garbhāvakrāntiśārīrānantaraṃ garbhavyākaraṇasyocitatvād garbhavyākaraṇaśārīrārambhaḥ | vyākaraṇaṃ vivaraṇaṃ | tat śukraśoṇitaṃ garbhāśayagataṃ prāṇināṃ garbhaḥ || tac ca prāṇa | na yeṣām eva bhāvānām anvayavyatirekābhyāṃ anvayavyatireki ca teṣv eva prīṇābhyāṃ paribhāṣayann āha – agnīṣoma ity ādi || kutaḥ punar ādāv evāgniṣomādi prāṇavyākaraṇam ucyate | anantaroktād garbhapratyaṅgaguṇāguṇavat teṣām apy agnīṣomādīnāṃ dharmmādharmmābhyām eva saṃyogayoḥ kṛtatvāt | tad evaṃ pāribhāṣitukāmaś ca teṣu darśayituṃ śabdapurovarttinām ivaiteṣāṃ prāṇaśabdo prayoge varttayati | manas ceti cakāra eṣām api śarīraguṇadoṣāṇām iva dharmmādharmmanimittatvaṃ samuccayāya |

The compound garbhavyākaraṇaśārīrārambhaḥ is supplied conjecturally, based on the corresponding opening formulae of the other chapters in the manuscript. Its omission may have resulted from an eye-skip prompted by the repetition of the string "vyākaraṇa". This definition of the term garbha likely aludes to Suśrutasaṃhitā 3.5.3 (according to the vulgate text A): śukraśoṇitaṃ garbhāśayastham ātmaprakṛtivikārasaṃmūrcchitaṃ garbha ity ucyate | C4 reads agniḥ somādi, which we emend to agniṣomādi, following the presumed reading of the root text. We emend C4’s reading -guṇāgaṇavat to -guṇāguṇavat. The emendation is supported by the text of SS 3.4.36. Gayadāsa likely alludes here to the statement at the end of the preceding chapter, SS 3.4.36: aṅgapratyaṅganirvṛttiḥ svabhāvād eva jāyate | aṅgapratyaṅganirvṛttau ye bhavanti guṇāguṇāḥ | te te garbhasya vijñeyā dharmādharmanimittajāḥ ||. The wording transmitted in the NE differs slightly from that of the vulgate quoted above, but expresses the same idea. The reading adopted here is a straightforward emendation of C4’s corrupt praibhāṣikāmaś.
