provisional-edition_uttaratantra-45-66.txt, between svaropaghāta and krimi
(xml:id 53 and 54). This is the position of the pratiśyāya chapter in the
Nepalese MSS.Restructuring of the
Uttaratantra xml files. The xml files are now divided according to the
internal naming of the sections, Śālākyatantra (adhyāyas 1-26),
Kumāratantra (27-38), Kāyacikitsātantra (39-59), Bhūtavidyātantra (60-62),
Tantrabhūṣaṇādhyāya (63-66).More restructuring of the
Uttaratantra xml files in line with the manuscript colophons and verse
SS.SS.6.66.17ii. The final ten xml files are now brought together as a
single group, combining the last 3 adhyāyas of the vulgate's
Kāyacikitsātantra and all of the vulgate's Bhūtavidyātantra (60-62) and

preceding three hemistichs in upajāti
(mithyopacārāt ... ekaśaś ca) correspond to
four hemistichs in anuṣṭubh of the vulgate (4cd--6ab). Three of
the four hemistichs found in the vulgate (5ab--6ab) are
repeated verbatim in Mādhavanidāna
62.1ab-2ab.
raktakṣayā vāminī sraṃsanī ca
putraghny atho pittalā caiva pittāt ||
atyānandā karṇṇinī dve caraṇyau
bhaved anyā śleṣmalā śleṣmaṇā ca | The
preceding two hemistichs in triṣṭubh
correspond to three hemistichs in
anuṣṭubh of the vulgate (6cd--7cd). The reading
karṇṇinī is not supported by our
MSS here. However, it is found in both the parallel verse
of the vulgate (6.38.8ab) and at a later instance in the
Nepalese MSS (see, e.g., verse 12 below). It is likely
that the superscipt "r" in the reading
of KL 699 (karṇṇirna) reflects upon an
earlier corruption of an "i".
śaṇḍhy aṇḍinī mahatī sūcīvaktrā
sarvātmikā sarvadoṣās tathānyā || The
preceding two hemistichs in triṣṭubh
correspond to three hemistichs in anuṣṭubh of
the vulgate (8ab-9ab).

i.e., vulgate 6.38 is followed by 6.60

two places in the Nepalese version where this
yathovāca phrase appears. The other
is Suśrutasaṃhitā 5.1.2. At that location, a scribe of
witness H added the marginal phrase atha khalu
vatsasuśrutaḥ.
niśācarebhyo rakṣyas tu nityam eva kṣatāturaḥ |

to be original. In MS H, this pāda appears to read
asadaprayuktānāñ ca.
This is unmetrical, the compound is unusual, and there is
an unexplained ca. There
have been interventions in MS K by a second hand, and also
there is a hole in the manuscript just at this point. The
ante correctionem reading of K is unclear but appears to
be closer to the reading of H than to the vulgate reading.
These factors make it hard to reconstruct what a plausible
and correct older reading might have been. For the impact

For this section in the Cikitsāsthāna
there is only one witness viz., H, in the Nepalese
version. It has a minor variant reading in the second
line. Instead of siddhaṃ balābhyāṃ ca
sadevadāru, it reads siddhaṃ
balābhyāṃ sahadevadāru. The variant reading
in the vulgate as °hiṃsrābhayā° instead
of haṃsāhvayā is not found in the
actual occurrence of the verse in the
Cikitsāsthāna, where it is
identical with its reading of the
tantrayukti section in the Nepalese
version. The following quote from Vṛnda's
Siddhayoga also supports the reading of
the Nepalese recension and the reading in the
Citkitsāsthāna of the vulgate.

to understand how a word ending in
-gaṃ, or any accusative, could precede
prākhilat or even pra
akhilan. Some readers have emended prākhilat to prālikhat, a rare verb, but
one that at least governs the accusative. We do not see
metathesis elsewhere in the work of K's scribe, which is
generally very accurate, so we consider the emendation
unlikely. With so many words missing from this passage, we
consider that emendation is not useful.We read -harṣacandro which could be
the name of the scribe. But the following
nnirati- is hard to construe. If we
read the ablative -harṣacandrān, it
solves the problem of -nn- but is also
hard to construe.
śrīgaṇadevadevakuladūnī gvalakanivāsino vaidyavasuvarmaṇaḥ
pustakam idaṃ paṭhitvārtham avagamya sarvasattvānām upadeśaṃ
vidhātuṃ pratipāditam | atas tad ādhikrayābhyāṃ tad gotrajena
