Began this file. added 1.41, based on MS N Separated the file into two parts, 1-31 and 32-end, because of processing limits at Saktumiva Added all remaining adhyāyas from K (from H for 19 and 20) and stripped out transcription codes to make draft provisional edition files. The numbering and text of SS.1.13 are collated against the 1938 edition, not the 1931 edition. Finalized the edition of SS.1.8 Completed a major overhaul ("meta-edit") of the all Sūtrasthāna files. I checked all passages and made sure that xml:id tags matched correctly across all files, unifying and separating text-portions as needed. I separated words ad hoc. I corrected readings and checked against the MSS in many cases, but again ad hoc. There is much remaining to be done, but the Sūtrasthāna is now in a coherent format at the macro scale.

K is badly damaged at this point, so it is not completely clear what happend to the manuscript, although it does look as if the word was not included in the text and was added by a different hand. But H is usually a faithful witness to the same text as K, and in this case even N concurs. In our MSS, kuṭṭha appears to be a transmitted form, possibly Sanskritized to kuṣṭha by the scribe of MS H. It is not obvious how it could be a scribal error for the Vulgate's "kīṭa." Dr. P. rājataḥ || ubhāv etāv anipuṇāvasam arthau cikitsittaṃ | ardhavedadharāvetāvekapakṣāv iva dvijau || oṣadhyo'mṛtakalpās tu śastrāśaniviṣopamāḥ | ajñenoupahitās tās yusmāt tam parivarjayet || snehādiṣvanabhijñās tu chedyādiṣu ca karmmasu | mārayanti naraṃ lobhāt kuvaidyā nṛpadoṣataḥ || yas tūbhayajño matimān sa samartho'thasādhane | āhave karmma nirvvoḍhuṃ dvicakra syandano yathā || vatsa [Adhyāya 6] athāto ṛtucaryāṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || kālo hi bhagavān svayambhur anādimadhyanidhano 'tra rasavyāpatsampattayo jīvitamaraṇe ca manuṣyāṇām āyatte sa sūkṣmām api kalān na līyata iti kālaḥ | saṅkalayati kalayati vā bhūtānīti kālaḥ | tasya saṃvatsarātmano bhagavān ādityo gativiśeṣeṇa nimeṣakāṣṭhākalāmuhūrttāhorātrapakṣamāsartvayanasaṃvatsarayugapravibhāgaṃ karoti | tatra laghvakṣinipātamātro nimeṣaḥ | pañcadaśanimeṣā kāṣṭhā triṅśatkāṣṭhā kalā | viṅśatikalā muhūrttaḥ kalāyāḥ daśabhāgaś ca | triṃśatmuhūrttam ahorātraṃ | pañcadaśāhorātraḥ pakṣaḥ | sa dvividhaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ śuklaś ca tau māsaḥ | tatra māghādayo dvādaśa māsāḥ saṃvatsaraḥ | dvimāsikam ṛtuṅ kṛtvā ṣaḍṛtavo bhavanti || te ca śiśiravasantagrīṣmavarṣāśaraddhemantāḥ | teṣaṃ tapastapasyau śiśiraḥ | madhumādhavau vasantaḥ | śuciśukrau grīṣmaḥ nabhonabhasyau varṣā | iṣorjau śarat | sahassahasyau hemanta iti | ta ete śītoṣṇavarṣavātalakṣaṇāḥ | candrādityayoḥ kālavibhāgakaratvād ayane dve bhavataḥ | dakṣiṇam uttarañ ca | tayor dakṣiṇam varṣāśaraddhemantāḥ teṣu bhagavān āpyāyate somaḥ | amlalavaṇamadhurāś ca rasā balavanto bhavanti | uttarottarañ ca sarvaprāṇināṃ balam abhivarddhate | uttaraṃ śiśiravasantagrīṣmāḥ | teṣu bhagavān āpyāyate rkaḥ | kaṭutiktakaṣāyāś ca rasā balavattarā bhavanti | uttarottaraś ca prāṇinām balam parihīyate || bhavati cātra || somaḥ kledayate bhūmiṃ sūryaḥ śoṣayate punaḥ | tāv ubhāv api saṃśritya vāyuḥ pālayati prajāḥ || atha khalv ayane yugapat saṃvatsaro bhavati | te dve ayane varṣasaṃvatsaraḥ parivatsaraḥ iḍāvatsaraḥ vatsara ity evaṃ pañca pañca varṣāṇi || te pañca yugam iti saṃjñāṃ labhante sa eṣa nimeṣādir yugaparyantaḥ kālaś cakravat parivarttamānaḥ kālacakra ity ucyate | evaṃ dakṣiṇāyane rātrir vyākhyātā || iha tu varṣāśaraddhemantavasantagrīṣmaprāvṛṣaḥ ṣaḍṛtavo bhavanti | doṣopacayaprakopapraśamanimittaṃ | te tu bhādrapadādyair dvimāsike naivaṃ vyākhyātāḥ | tadyathā | bhadrapadāśvayujau varṣāḥ kārttikamārgaśīrṣau śarat | pauṣamāghau hemantaḥ | phālgunacetrau vasantaḥ | vaiśākhajyeṣṭhau grīṣmaḥ | āṣāḍhaśrāvaṇau prāvṛḍ iti || tatra varṣāsv auṣadhyas taruṇyo lpavīryā āhāratvam upagatā vidahyante | āpaś cāpraśāntāḥ kṣitimalaprāyās tāstūpayujyamānā nabhasi meghāvatate jalapraklinnāyāṃ bhūmau klinnadehānāṃ dehināṃ śītavātavarṣaviṣṭambhitāgnīnāṃ vidahyante | sa vidāhāt pittasañcayam āpādayanti | sa sañcayaḥ śaradi praviralameghe viyaty upaśuṣyati paṅke 'rkakiraṇapravilāyitaḥ paittikāṃ vyādhīṃ janayati | tā evauṣadhyaḥ kālapariṇāmāt pariṇatavīryā balavatyo hemante bhavanti | āpaś ca praśāntāḥ snigdhā atyarthaṃ gurvyastā upayujyamānāḥ mandakiraṇatvād bhānos satuṣāraupaṣṭambhitadehānāṃ dehinām avidagdhāḥ snehād gauravād upalepitvāc ca śleṣmaṇas sañcayam āpādayanti | sa saṃcayo vasante 'rkakiraṇapravilāyitaḥ śleṣmikāṃ vyādhīṃ janayati | tā evauṣadhyau grīṣmaniḥsārā rūkṣā atimātralaghvyo bhavaty āpaś ca tā upayujyamānāḥ tatra śaraddhemantayor madhyasamam ahorātraṃ yugapac cādhimāsakau bhavataḥ | viṃśatikāṣṭhāś caikanimeṣārdhaś ca dinapariparivṛddhir uttarāyaṇe | sūryapratāpopaśoṣitadehānāṃ dehināṃ raukṣyāl laghvāc ca vāyoḥ sañcayam āpādayanti | sa sañcayaḥ prāvṛṣi cātyarthaṃñ jalopaklinnāyāṃ bhūmau cātiklinnadehānāṃ dehināṃ śītavātavarṣerito vātikān vyādhīn janayati | evam eṣāṃ doṣāṇāṃ sañcayaprakopahetur uktaḥ | In the 1931 ed. of the vulgate, the text numbering skips from 1.61.11 to 1.6.13, omitting 1.6.12. Ḍalhaṇa (1.16.10) also mentioned that some read samunnatasamobhayapāliḥ (instead of vṛttāyatasamobhayapālir) and others do not read saṃkṣiptādayaḥ pañcāsādhyāḥ. Also, the repetition of agropaharaṇīyāt in the MSS suggests that its second occurrence, which does not make good sense here, is a dittographic error. This reading appears to have been accepted by Cakrapāṇi (1.16.18–20), who glossed rājasarṣapaja as śvetasarṣapa. Cakrapāṇi also said that some read sarpis in the place of payas. In the compound beginning with arka, Ḍalhaṇa noted that some read arkapuṣpī. svedito marditaṅ karṇṇam anena mrakṣayed budhaḥ | tato 'nupadravaḥ samyag balavāṃś ca vivarddhate ||15|| N has a kākapāda after ane, but the missing letter (one would expect 'na') has not been supplied in a margin or elsewhere. ye tu karṇṇā na varddhante snehasvedopapāditāḥ | teṣām apāṅge tv abahiḥ kuryāt prachānam eva ca ||16|| Ḍalhaṇa (1.16.23) noted that some read teṣām apāṅgacchedyaṃ hi kāryam ābhyantaraṃ bhavet. amitāḥ karṇṇabandhās tu vijñeyāḥ kuśalair iha | yo yathā suniviṣṭaḥ syāt tat tathā yojayed bhiṣak ||17|| Ḍalhaṇa (1.16.26) stated that some read suniviṣṭaḥ (the reading of the Nepalese version) instead of suviśiṣṭaḥ. jātaromā suvartmā ca śliṣṭasandhiḥ samaḥ sthiraḥ | surūḍho 'vedano yas tu taṃ karṇṇaṃ varddhayec chanaiḥ ||18|| viśleṣitāyām atha nāsikāyāṃ vakṣyāmi sandhānavidhiṃ yathāvat | nāsāpramāṇaṃ pṛthivīruhāṇāṃ patraṃ gṛhītvā tv avalambi tasya ||19|| Cakrapāṇidatta said that others read nāsāsandhānavidhim here. [Adhyāya 18, collation] athāta ālepavraṇabandhavidhi vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || ālepana ādya upakrama eṣa sarvaśophānāṃ sāmānyataḥ pradhānatamaś ca tamprati pratirogam vakṣyāmaḥ | tatra pratilomam ālimpen nānuloma | pratilome hi samyag auṣadham avatiṣṭhate | praviśati ca romakūpais tasya pramāṇaṃ māhiṣārdracarmāt sedham upadiśanti | na ca śuṣkam upekṣitavyam anyatra pīḍayitavyāt | śuṣkam apārthakaṃ rujākaraś ca bhavati | ālepapradehayor antaram ālepaḥ śītas tanur aviśoṣī viśoṣī vā | pradehas tūṣṇaḥ śīto vā bahalobahuviśoṣī ca | tatra raktapittaprasādakṛdālepaḥ | śodhano ropaṇaḥ śophavedanāpagamaś ca tasyopayogaḥ kṣatākṣateṣu yastu kṣateṣūpayujyate sa bhūyaḥ kalka iti saṃjñāṃ labhate | nirudhyālepanasaṃjñaḥ tenāsrāvam anirodho mṛdupūtimāṃsāpakarṣaṇam antardoṣatā śurvraṇaśuddhiś ca bhavati | na cālepanaṃ rātrau prayuñjīta śaityāt tu śleṣmaṇaḥ ūrdhvavivṛtaromakūpatvādūṣmānir eti || avidagdheṣu śopheṣu hitam ālepamanam bhavet | yathā svadoṣaśamanaṃ dāhakaṇḍūrujāpahaṃ || marmadeśeṣu ye rogā guhyeṣv api sadā nṛṇāṃ | saṃśodhanāya teṣān tu kuryād ālepanaṃ bhiṣak || ata ūrdhvavraṇabandhanadravyāṇy upadekṣyāmaḥ | kṣaumakārpāsikāvikadukūlakauśeyapatrorṇṇacīnapaṭṭacarmāntarbalkalalatāvidalarajjābālatūlasantānikālāhādīny athāvyādhiṃ kālaś cāvekṣyopayogaḥ | pramāṇataś ceṣām ādeśaḥ | kośadāma śākhāsu grīvāmeḍhramūtolīmaṇḍalasthavikāyamalakakhaṭvācīnavivandha vitānagophaṇāḥ pañcāṅgī ceti caturdaśabandhaviśeṣāḥ | teṣān nāmabhir evākṛtayaḥ prāyeṇa vyākhyātāḥ | tatra kośañ jaṅghāṅguliparvvasu vidadhyāt | dāmam asaṃbādhe 'ṅge sāndhikūrccakastanāntarakarṇṇeṣu svastikam anuvellitaṃ śākhāsu grīvāmeḍhrayon mūtolīṃ vṛtteṅge maṇḍalam aṅguṣṭhāṅgulimeḍhrāgreṣu sthavikā | yamalavraṇābhyāṃ yamalakaṃ | hanugaṇḍaśaṃkheṣu khaṭvām apāṅgayoś cīnaṃ | pṛṣṭhodaroraḥsu vibandhaṃ mūrddhni vitāmaṃ | cipukanāmauṣṭhāṃsabastiṣu goṣphaṇā jatruṇipañcāṅgīm iti | yo vā yasmin pradeśe suniviṣṭo bhavati tattasmin nidadhyāt | yantranam ūrddhamadhastiryak ca bhavati | tatra ghanāṅ kāvalikān datvā cāmaparikṣepam ṛjum anāviddham asaṅkucitaṃ mṛdu paṭṭan niveśya badhnīyāt | na ca vraṇasyopari kuryāt | granthim ābādhaṅ karoti | athāsya na ca vikeśikauṣadhetisnigdhetirūkṣe viṣame vā kurvvīta | kasmād atisnehāt kledayati | raukṣyāc chinatti durnyāstavraṇacarmmāvagharṣaṇaṃ karoti | yukta snehatyādāśu rohati | tatra vraṇāyatanaviśeṣād bandhas trividho bhavati | gāḍhas samaḥ śithila iti | tatra sphikkukṣivaṃkṣaṇaśiraḥ sugāḍhaḥ | śākhāvadanakarṇṇakaṇṭhameḍhramuṣkapārśvodarorasmu samaḥ | akṣṇoḥ sandhiṣu ca śithilaḥ | tatra paittikaṃ gāḍhasthāne samaṃ badhnīyāt | samasthāne śithilaṃ | śithilasthāne naiva śoṇitaduṣṭañ ca || ślaiṣmikaṃ śithilasthāne samaṃ | samasthāne gāḍhaṃ | gāḍhasthāne gāḍhataraṃ | vātaduṣṭañ ca || tatra paittikaṃ grīṣme dvirahne badhnīyāt | raktopadrutam apy evaṃ | ślaiṣmikaṃ hemante tṛtīye 'hni | vātopadrutam apy evaṃ | evaṃ mūhya baṃdhamviparyayañ ca kurvvīta | samaśithilasthāneṣu gāḍha baṃdhe vikesikauṣadhanair arthakyaṃ śophavedanāprādurbhbhāvaś ca | gāḍhasamasthāneṣu sithila bandhe vikesikauṣadhapala ñtanam paṭṭasañcārād vraṇavagharṣaṇañ ca | aviparītabandhe vedanāśāntir asṛkprasādo mārddavañ ca | abadhyamāne śītavātātaparajovarṣadaṃśamasakamakṣikāprabhṛtibhir abhighātaviśeṣair hanyate vraṇaḥ | vividhavedanopadrutaś ca duṣṭatām upaiti | ālepanādīni cāsya viśopam upayānti || cūrṇṇitam mathitam bhagnaṃ viśliṣṭam atipāditaṃ | asthisnāyusirācchinnam āśu bandhena rohati || sukhañ ca vraṇitaḥ śete sukhaṅ gacchati tiṣṭhati | sukha śayyāsanasthasya kṣipraṃ saṃrohati vraṇaḥ || abandhyā pittaraktābhighātanimittā yadātodadāhavedanābhibhūtāḥ kṣārāgnidagdhāḥ pākāt prakuthitaprasīrṇṇamāṃsāś ca bhavanti || kuṣṭhinām agnidagdhānāṃ piṭakā madhumehināṃ | karṇṇikāś conduruviṣe viṣajuṣṭavraṇāś ca ye || māṃsapāke na badhyante gudapāke ca dāruṇe | svabuddhyār vapi vibhajet kṛtyākṛtyeṣu buddhimān || doṣan dehañ ca vijñāya vraṇan ś ca vraṇakovidaḥ | ṛtūñ ca parisaṃkhyāya tato bandhīn niveśayed iti || ḍoḍa ||
[Adhyāya 19, collation] || athāto vraṇitopāsanīyam vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || atha vraṇitasya prathamam evāgāram anvicchet || praśastavāstusuniviṣṭaṃ śucyavātātapañca | apraśastavāstunigṛhe sambādhe 'śucinyātape cātivāte ca rogāḥ syuściraṃ śārīramānasāḥ | tasmiñ chayanam asambādhaṃ svāstīrṇaaṇaṃ manojñam prākchīrṣan saśastraṅ kurvvīta | sukhaceṣṭāpracāraḥ syāt | svāstīrṇṇe śayane vraṇī prācyādiśi sthito devās tat pūjanārthan tataḥśiras tasmin suhṛdbhir anukūlaiḥ priyamvadair upāsyamāno yatheṣṭamāśīteti || bhavanti cātra|| suhṛdo vikṣipanty āśu kathābhir vvraṇavedanāḥ | āśvāsayanto bahuśaḥ svanukūlāḥ priyamvadāḥ || na ca divānidrāvaśagaḥ syād utthāsamvesanaparimārjjanādiṣu cātmaceṣṭāsvapramatto vraṇaṃ rakṣet || bhavanti cātra|| sthānāsanañcaṅkramaṇaṃ divāsvapnan tathaiva ca | vraṇito na viniṣeveta śaktimān api mānavaḥ || gamyānāñ ca strīṇāṃ sandarśanasambhāṣaṇasaṃsparśanāni dūrata eva pariharet || bhavanti cātra|| strīṇāṃ sandarśanāc chukraṅ kadācid balitaṃ sravet | grāmyadharmmakṛtān doṣān so 'saṃsargge 'pyavāpnuyāt || navadhānyamāṣatilakaśāyakulatthaniṣpāvakaharitaśokāmlalavaṇaguḍapiṣṭavikṛtaśuṣkaśākājāvimāṃsaśīto dakadadhidugdhatakraprabhṛtīni pariharet || bhavanti cātra|| takrānto navadhānyādiryoyamvargga udāhṛtaḥ | doṣasañjanano hyeṣa vijñeyaḥ pūyavarddhanaḥ || madyapañyamaireyāriṣṭāsavamadhusurāvihārām pariharet || madyamamlañ ca rūkṣañ ca tīkṣṇamuṣṇañ ca vīryataḥ | āśukāri ca tatpītaṃ kṣipram vyāpādayed vraṇaṃ || vātātaparajodhūmātibhojanāniṣṭaśravaṇadarśanāmarṣaśokaviṣamaśayanāsanarātrijāgaraṇātmakṣikādibhiś cābādhām pariharet || vraṇitasyopataptasya kāraṇair eva mādibhiḥ | kṣīṇaśoṇitamāṃsasya bhuktaṃ samyag na jīryati || ajīrṇaaṇāt pavanādīnāṃ vibhramobalavān bhavet | tataḥ śopharujāśrāvadāhapākānavāpnuyāt || sadā ca nīcanakharomṇāśucināśucivāsasāśāntimaṅgaladevatābrāhmaṇagurupareṇabhavitavyaṃ || tat kasya hetoḥ hiṃsāvihārāṇi tu rakṣānsipaśupatikuberakumārānucarāṇi mānsaśoṇitapratvāt kṣatajanimittam vraṇitam upa sarppanti satkārārthañ jighāṃsūni vā kadācid bhavanti || teṣāṃ satkārakāmānām prayatetāntarātmanā | dhūpamālyopahārām̐ś ca bhakṣām̐ś caivopahārayet || te tu santarppitā ātmavanna hiṃsyus tasmāt satatam atandritajanaparivṛto nityadīpodakaśastrasragdāmālaṅkṛta veśmani sampan maṅgalamano 'nukūlāḥ kathāḥ śṛṇvannāsīta || sampatmaṅgalayuktābhiḥ kathābhiḥ prītamānasaḥ | āsāvān vyādhimokṣāya kṣipraṃ sukham avāpnuyāt || ṛksāmayajurbhir mmantrairaparaiś cāśīrvvādair upādhyāyabhiṣajāś ca sandhyayo rakṣāṅkuryuḥ || sarṣapāriṣṭapatrābhyāṃ sarppiṣālavaṇena ca | dvirahnaḥ kārayed rūpaṃ saptarātramatandritaḥ || chattrāticchattralāṅgulīñ jaṭilāṃ brahmacāriṇīṃ | lakṣmīguhāmatiguhāvacāmativiṣāntathā || śatavīryāṃ saha sravīryāṃ siddhārthām̐ś cāpi dhārayet || bhavanti cātra|| anena vidhānā yuktam ārād eva niśācarāḥ | vanaṃ kesariṇākrāntaṃ varjjayanti mṛgā iva || bālośīrair vraṇambījair nna ca nam parighaṭūyet | na tuden na ca kaṇḍūyāc chayānaḥ paripālayet || jīrṇaśālyodanaṃ snigdhamalyamuṣkan dravottaraṃ | bhuñjāno jāṅgalair mmāsaiḥ śīghraṃ vraṇam apohati || taṇḍulīyakajīvantī suniṣarṇṇakavāstukaiḥ | bālamūlakavārttākī paṭolaiḥ kāravallakaiḥ || sadāḍimaiḥ sāmalakair ghṛtabhṛṣṭaiḥ sasaindhavaiḥḥ | anyair eva ṅguṇair vvāpi mudgādīnāṃ rasena vā || divā na nidrā vaśago nivātagṛhagocaraḥ | vraṇī vaidyavase tiṣṭhac chīghraṃ vraṇam apohati || tau ca ruk ca divāsvāpāt tāś ca mṛtyuś ca maithunāt || evaṃ vṛttasamācāro vraṇī sampadyate sukhī | āyuś ca dīrgham āpnoti dhanvantarivaco yathā ||

[Adhyāya 21, collation] || athāto vraṇapraśnaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || vātapittaśleṣmāṇa eva dehe sambhavahetavo bhavanti || tair evāsyāvyāpanair adhomadhyorddhasanniviṣṭaiḥ śarīram idan dhāryate| agāram iva sthūṇābhir ataś ca tristhūṇam ity āhur ity eke| ta eva ca vyāpannāḥ pralayahetavo bhavanti tad ebhiḥ śoṇitacaturtthaiḥ sambhavasthitipralayeṣv apy avirahitaṃ śarīram bhavati || bhavati cātra || nartte dehaḥ kaphād asti na ca pittān na mārutāt | śoṇitād api vā nityan deham etais tu dhāryate || tatra vā gatigandhopādāno dhātuḥ | tapa santāpe | śliṣa āliṅgane | eṣāṃ kṛdvihitaiḥ pratyayair vvātaṃ pittaṃ śleṣmā iti rūpāṇi bhavanti || teṣāṃ sthānāny ata ūrddhvam vakṣyāmaḥ || tatra samāsena vāyuḥ śroṇīgudasaṃśrayaḥ | pakvāmāsayamadhyastham pittasya | āmāsayaḥ śleṣmaṇaḥ || ataḥ param pañcadhā vibhajyante | tatra vātasya vātavyādhike vakṣyāmaḥ | pittasya yakṛtplīhānau hṛdayan dṛṣṭis tvag iti | pūrvvoktan tu śleṣmaṇas tūrasaḥ kaṇṭhaḥ śiraḥ sandhaya iti || etāni khalu doṣasthānāny avyāpannānām bhavanti | pūrvvoktañ ca || visargādānavikṣepaiḥ somasūryānilā yathā | dhārayanti jagaddehaṅ kaphapittānilās tathā || tatra jijñāsyate || kim pittavyatirekeṇānyo 'gnirutāho pittam evāgnir iti | atrocyate | na khalu pittavyatirekeṇānyo 'gnir upalabhyate | āgneyatvāt pitte dahanapacanādiṣu pravarttamāno 'gnivad upacāraḥ kriyante ntaragnir iti | kṣiṇe vāgniguṇe tatsamānadravyopayogād ativṛddhe śītakriyopayogād āgamāc ca paśyāmo na khalu pittavyatirekeṇānyo 'gnir iti | tat tu dṛṣṭahetukena viśeṣeṇa pakvāmāsayamadhyasthaṃ caturvvidham apy annam pacati vivecayati ca doṣarasamūtrapurīṣāṇi | tatrastham eva cātmaśaktyā śeṣāṇām pittasthānānāṃ śarīrasya cāgnikarmmaṇānugrahaṅ karoti | tasmin pitte pācako 'gnir iti saṃjñā || yakṛtplīhnoḥ pittan tasmin rañjako gnir iti saṃjñā sa rasasya rāgakṛd uktaḥ | yat tu hṛdistham pittan tasmin sādhako 'gnir iti saṃjñā śobhitaprārthitamanorathasādhanakṛd uktaḥ || yat tu dṛṣṭyām pittaṃ tasminn ālocako 'gnir iti saṃjñā sa rūpagrahaṇe dhikṛtaḥ || yat tu tvaci pittan tasya bhrājako 'gnir iti saṃjñā so 'bhyaṅgaparisekāvagāhālayanādīnāṃ kriyādravyādīnāṃ pācayitā |||| bhavati cātra || pittaṃ tīkṣṇan dravam pūtinīlam pītan tathaiva ca | uṣṇaṅ kaṭurasañ caiva vidagdhan tv amlam iṣyate || ata ūrdhvaṃ śleṣmasthānāny anuvyākhyāsyāmaḥ || tatrāmāsayaḥ pittāsayasyopari tatpratyanīkatvād ūrdhvagatitvāt tejasaś candra ivādityasya sa caturvvidhasyāhārasyādhāraḥ sa ca tatraudakair guṇaiḥ praklinno bhinnasaṃghātas sukhajaro bhavati || mādhuryāt picchilatvāc ca prakleditvāt tathaiva ca | āmāsaye sambhavati śleṣmā madhuraśītalaḥ || sa tatra sthitaḥ svaśaktyā śeṣāṇāṃ śleṣmasthānānāṃ śarīrasyodakakarmmaṇānugrahaṅ karoti || uraḥsthas tu trikasandhāraṇam ātmavīryyeṇānnarasasahitena hṛdayāvalambanam varaṇañ ca karoti | kaṇṭhasthas tu jihvendriyasya saumyatvāt samyagrasajñāne vivarttate || śiraḥsthas tu snehasantarppaṇādhikṛtatvād indriyāṇām ātmavīryyeṇānugrahaṃ karoti || sandhisthas tu sandhisaṃśleṣāt sarvvaṃ sandhisaṃśleṣāt sarvvasandhyagranuhaṅ karoti || bhavati cātra || śleṣmā śveto guru snigdhaḥ picchilaḥ śīta eva ca | madhuraś cāvidagdhaḥ syād vidagdho lavaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ || śoṇitasthānaprāgabhihitaṃ | anuṣṇaśītam madhuraṃ snigdhaṃ raktañ ca varṇataḥ | śoṇitaṅ guru visraṃ syād vidāhaś cāsya pittavat || etāni khalu doṣasthānāny atra sañcīyante doṣāḥ | prāk sañcayahetur uktaḥ || sañcitānāṃ khalu doṣāṇāṃ stabdhapūrṇṇakoṣṭhatā pītāvabhāsatā mandoṣmatā cāṅgānāṃ gauravam ālasyañ ceti liṅgāni bhavanti | tatra prathamaḥ kriyākālaḥ || ata ūrdhvam prakopakāraṇāni vakṣyāmaḥ | tatra balavadvigrahātivyavāyavyāyāmapratapanapradhāvanābhighātalaṅghanaplavanaprataraṇajāgaraṇahayagajarathaprayāṇātikaṭukakaṣāyatiktalaghurūkṣaśītavīryyaśuṣkaśākavallūrakoradūṣaśyāmākanīvāramudgamasūrāḍhakīhareṇuniṣpāvānaśanavātamūtrapurīṣaśukravathūdgāraccharddibāṣpavegavighātādibhir vviśeṣair vvāyuḥ prakopam āpadyate || sa śītābhraprayāteṣu gharmmārtte ca viśeṣataḥ | pratyūṣasy aparāhṇe ca jīrṇṇānte ca prakupyati || krodhaśokabhayāyāsopavāsavidagdhamaithunopagamanakaṭvamlalavaṇoṣṇatīkṣṇarūkṣalaghuvidāhitilatailapiṇyākakulatthasarṣapātasīharitaśākavarāhamatsyājāvikamāṃsadadhimastutakrasauvīrakasurāmlaphalakaṭvaraprabhṛtibhi r vviśeṣaiḥ pittam prakopam āpadyate || taduṣṇe voṣṇakāle ca ghanānte ca viṣeśataḥ | madhyāhne cārddharātre ca jīryyaty anne ca kupyati || divāsvapno vyāyāmālasyamadhurāmlalavaṇasnigdhaśītagurupicchilābhiṣyandihāyanakayavanaiṣadhotkaṭamāṣagodhūmatilapiṣṭavikṛtadugdhadadhikṛśarapāyasekṣuvikārānūpodakamāṃsavasābisamṛṇālakaserukaśṛṅgāṭakamadhuravallīphalasamasanādhyaśanaprabhṛtibhir vviśeṣaiḥ śleṣmā prakopam āpadyate || sa śīte śītakāle ca vasante ca viśeṣataḥ | pūrvvāhṇe ca pradoṣe ca bhuktamātre prakupyati || pittaprakopaṇair eva cābhīkṣṇaṃ dravasnigdhagurubhiś cāhārair vastrāntānāmikākeśanakharomadaśāspṛśaḥ | srotovarodhahṛdgaṇḍamūrdhoraḥkukṣipāṇayaḥ || kapālopalabhasmāsthituṣāṅgārakarāś ca ye | vilikhanto mahīṃ kiṃcin muñcanto loṣṭabhedinaḥ || tailakardamadigdhāṅgā raktasraganulepanāḥ | phalaṃ pakvam asāraṃ vā gṛhītvā'nyac ca tadvidham || nakhair nakhāntaraṃ vā'pi kareṇa caraṇaṃ tathā | upānaccarmahastā vā vikṛtavyādhipīḍitāḥ || vāmācārā rudantaś ca śvāsino vikṛtekṣaṇāḥ | yāmyāṃ diśaṃ prāñjalayo viṣamaikapade sthitāḥ || vaidyaṃ ya upasarpanti dūtās te cāpi garhitāḥ | dakṣiṇābhimukhaṃ deśe tvaśucau vā hutāśanam | ^ jvalayantaṃ pacantaṃ vā krūrakarmaṇi codyatam || nagnaṃ bhūmau śayānaṃ vā vegotsargeṣu vā'śucim | prakīrṇākeśam abhyaktaṃ svinnaṃ viklavam eva vā || vaidyaṃ ya upasarpanti dūtās te cāpi garhitāḥ | vaidyasya paitrye daive vā kārye cotpātadarśane || madhyāhne cārdharātre vā sandhyayoḥ kṛttikāsu ca | ārdrāśleṣāmaghāmūlapūrvāsu bharaṇīṣu ca || caturthyāṃ vā navamyāṃ vā ṣaṣṭhyāṃ sandhidineṣu ca | vaidyaṃ ya upasarpanti dūtāste cāpi garhitāḥ || svinnābhitaptā madhyāhne jvalanasya samīpataḥ | garhitāḥ pittarogeṣu dūtā vaidyamupāgatāḥ || ta eva kapharogeṣu karmasiddhikarāḥ smṛtāḥ | etena śeṣaṃ vyākhyātaṃ buddhvā saṃvibhajet tu tat || raktapittātisāreṣu prameheṣu tathaiva ca | praśasto jalarodheṣu dūtavaidyasamāgamaḥ || vijñāyaivaṃ vibhāgaṃ tu śeṣaṃ budhyeta paṇḍitaḥ | śuklavāsāḥ śucir gauraḥ śyāmo vā priyadarśanaḥ || svasyām jātau svagotro vā dūtaḥ kāryakaraḥ smṛtaḥ | goyānenāgatas tuṣṭaḥ pādābhyāṃ śubhaceṣṭitaḥ || smṛtimān vidhikālajñaḥ svatantraḥ pratipattimān | alaṅkṛto maṅgalavān dūtaḥ kāryakaraḥ smṛtaḥ || svasthaṃ prāṅmukham āsīnaṃ same deśe śucau śucim | upasarpati yo vaidyaṃ sa ca kāryakaraḥ smṛtaḥ || māṃsodakumbhātapatravipravāraṇagovṛṣāḥ | śuklavarṇāś ca pūjyante prasthāne darśanaṃ gatāḥ || strī putriṇī savatsā gaur vardhamānam alaṅkṛtā | kanyā matsyāḥ phalaṃ cāmaṃ svastikaṃ modakā dadhi || hiraṇyākṣatapātraṃ vā ratnāni sumano nṛpaḥ | apraśānto 'nalo vājī haṃsaś cāṣaḥ śikhī tathā || brahmadundubhijīmūtaśaṅkhaveṇurathasvanāḥ | siṃhagovṛṣanādāś ca hreṣitaṃ gajabṛṃhitam || śastaṃ haṃsarutaṃ nṝṇāṃ kauśikaṃ caiva vāmataḥ | prasthāne yāyinaḥ śreṣṭhā vācaś ca hṛdayaṅgamāḥ || patrapuṣpaphalopetān sakṣīrānnīrujo drumān | āśritā vā nabhoveśmadhvajatoraṇavedikāḥ || dikṣu śāntāsu vaktāro madhuraṃ pṛṣṭhato 'nugāḥ | vāmā vā dakṣiṇā vā'pi śakunāḥ karmasiddhaye || śuṣke 'śanihate 'patre vallīnaddhe sakaṇṭake | vṛkṣe 'thavā'śmabhasmāsthiviṭtuṣāṅgārapāṃśuṣu || caityavalmīkaviṣamasthitā dīptakharasvarāḥ | purato dikṣu dīptāsu vaktāro nārthasādhakāḥ || punnāmānaḥ khagā vāmāḥ strīsaṃjñā dakṣiṇāḥ śubhāḥ | dakṣiṇād vāmagamanaṃ praśastaṃ śvaśṛgālayoḥ | ^ vāmaṃ nakulacāṣāṇāṃ nobhayaṃ śaśasarpayoḥ || bhāsakauśikayoś caiva na praśastaṃ kilobhayam | darśanaṃ vā rutaṃ cāpi na godhākṛkalāsayoḥ || dūtair aniṣṭais tulyānāmaś castaṃ darśanaṃ nṛṇām | kulatthatilakārpāsatuṣapāṣāṇabhasmanām || pātraṃ neṣṭaṃ tathā'ṅgāratailakardamapūritam | prasannetaramadyānāṃ pūrṇaṃ vā raktasarṣapaiḥ || śavakāṣṭhapalāśānāṃ śuṣkāṇāṃ pathi saṅgamāḥ | neṣyante patitāntasthadīnāndharipavas tathā || mṛduḥ śīto 'nukūlaś ca sugandhiś cānilaḥ śubhaḥ | kharoṣṇo 'niṣṭagandhaś ca pratilomaś ca garhitaḥ || granthyarbudādiṣu sadā chedaśabdas tu pūjitaḥ | vidradhyudaragulmeṣu bhedaśabdas tathaiva ca || raktapittātisāreṣu ruddhaśabdaḥ praśasyate | evaṃ vyādhiviśeṣeṇa nimittam upadhārayet || tathaivākruṣṭahākaṣṭamākrandaruditasvanāḥ | chardyāṃ vātapurīṣāṇāṃ śabdo vai gardabhoṣṭrayoḥ || pratiṣiddhaṃ tathā bhagnaṃ kṣutaṃ skhalitam āhatam | daurmanasyaṃ ca vaidyasya yātrāyāṃ na praśasyate || praveśe 'py etad uddeśād avekṣyaṃ ca tathā+āture | pratidvāraṃ gṛhe vā'sya punaretanna gaṇyate || keśabhasmāsthikāṣṭhāśmatuṣakārpāsakaṇṭakāḥ | khaṭvordhvapādā madyāpo vasā tailaṃ tilāstṛṇam || napuṃsakavyaṅgabhagnanagnamuṇḍāsitāmbarāḥ | prasthāne vā praveśe vā neṣyante darśanaṃ gatāḥ || bhāṇḍānāṃ saṃkarasthānāṃ sthānāt saṃcaraṇaṃ tathā | nikhātotpāṭanaṃ bhaṅgaḥ patanaṃ nirgamas tathā || vaidyāsanāvasādo vā rogī vā syādadhomukhaḥ | vaidyaṃ saṃbhāṣamāṇo 'ṅgaṃ kuḍyamā staraṇāni vā || pramṛjyādvā dhunīyād vā karau pṛṣṭhaṃ śiras tathā | hastaṃ cākṛṣya vaidyasya nyasec chirasi corasi || yo vaidyamunmukhaḥ pṛcchedunmārṣṭi svāṅgamāturaḥ | na sa sidhyati vaidyo vā gṛhe yasya na pūjyate || bhavane pūjyate vā'pi yasya vaidyaḥ sa sidhyati | śubhaṃ śubheṣu dūtādiṣv aśubhaṃ hy aśubheṣu ca || āturasya dhruvaṃ tasmād dūtādīn lakṣayed bhiṣak | svapnān ataḥ pravakṣyāmi maraṇāya śubhāya ca || suhṛdo yāṃ ś ca paśyanti vyādhito vā svayaṃ tathā | snehābhyaktaśarīras tu karabhavyālagardabhaiḥ || varāhair mahiṣair vā'pi yo yāyāddakṣiṇāmukhaḥ | raktāmbaradharā kṛṣṇā hasantī muktamūrdhajā || yaṃ vā karṣati baddhvā strī nṛtyantī dakṣiṇāmukham | antāvasāyibhir yo vā+ākṛṣyate dakṣiṇāmukhaḥ || pariṣvajeran yaṃ vā'pi pretāḥ pravrajitās tathā | muhur āghrāyate yas tu śvāpadair vikṛtānanaiḥ || piben madhu ca tailaṃ ca yo vā paṅke 'vasīdati | paṅkapradigdhagātro vā pranṛtyet prahasettathā || nirambaraś ca yo raktāṃ dhārayec chirasi srajam | yasya vaṃśo nalo vā'pi tālo vorasi jāyate || mastakādyaś ca tālo vā ucchritā vīṇuvīrudhaḥ || yaṃ vā matsyo grased yo vā jvalanaṃ praviśen naraḥ | parvatāgrāt pated yo vā śvabhre vā tamasāvṛte || hriyate srotasā yo vā yo vā mauṇḍyam avāpnuyāt | parājīyeta badhyeta kākādyair vā'bhibhūyate || patanaṃ tārakādīnāṃ praṇāśaṃ dīpacakṣuṣoḥ | yaḥ paśyed devatānāṃ ca (ā.vā) prakampam avanes tathā || yasya chardir vireko vā daśanāḥ prapatanti vā | śālmalīṃ kiṃśukaṃ yūpaṃ valmīkaṃ pāribhadrakam || puṣpāḍhyaṃ kovidāraṃ vā citāṃ vā yo 'dhirohati | kārpāsatailapiṇyākalohāni lavaṇaṃ tilān || labhetāśnīta vā pakvam annaṃ yaś ca pibet surām | svasthaḥ sa labhate vyādhiṃ vyādhito mṛtyum ṛcchati || yathāsvaṃ prakṛtisvapno vismṛto vihatas tathā | cintākṛto divā dṛṣto bhavanty aphaladās tu te || jvaritānāṃ śunā sakhyaṃ kapisakhyaṃ tu śoṣiṇām | unmāde rākṣasaiḥ pretair apasmāre pravartanam || mehātisāriṇāṃ toyapānaṃ snehasya kuṣṭhinām | gulmeṣu sthāvarotpattiḥ koṣṭhe mūrdhni śiroruji || śaṣkulībhakṣaṇaṃ chardyāmadhvā śvāsapipāsayoḥ | haridraṃ bhojanaṃ vā'pi yasya syāt pāṇḍurogiṇaḥ || raktapittī pibed yas tu śoṇitaṃ sa vinaśyati | svapnān evaṃvidhān dṛṣṭvā prātar utthāya yatnavān || dadyān māṣāṃs tilāṃ llohaṃ viprebhyaḥ kāñcanaṃ tathā | japec cāpi śubhān mantrān gāyatrīṃ tripadāṃ tathā || samṛddham agniṃ sādhūṃś ca nirmalāni jalāni ca | paśyet kalyāṇabhāvāya vyādher apagamāya ca || māṃsaṃ matsyaṃ srajaḥ śvetā vāsāṃsi ca phalāni ca | labhate dhanalābhāya vyādher apagamāya ca || mahāprāsādasaphalavṛkṣavāraṇaparvatān | āroheddravyalābhāya vyādherapagamāya ca || nadīnadasamudrāṃś ca kṣubhitān kaluṣodakān | taret kalyāṇalābhāya vyādher apagamāya ca || urago vā jalauko vā bhramaro vā'pi yaṃ daśet | ārogyaṃ nirdiśettasya dhanalābhaṃ ca buddhimān || evaṃrūpān śubhān svapnān yaḥ paśyed vyādhito naraḥ | sa dīrghāyur iti jñeyas tasmai karma samācaret ||

iti suśrutasaṃhitāyāṃ sūtrasthāne viparītāviparītasvapnanidarśanīyo nāmaikonatriṃśattamo 'dhyāyaḥ ||

[Adhyāya 30, collation] athātaḥ pañcendriyārthavipratipattim adhyāyaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || śarīraśīlayor yasya prakṛter vikṛtir bhavet | tat tva riṣṭaṃ samāsena vyāsatas tu nibodha me || śṛṇoti vividhān śabdān yo divyānām abhāvataḥ | samudrapurameghānām asaṃpattau ca niḥsvanān || tān svanānnāvagṛhṇāti manyate cānyaśabdavat | grāmyāraṇyasvanāṃś cāpi viparītān śṛṇoti ca || dviṣacchabdeṣu ramate suhṛcchabdeṣu kupyati | na śṛṇoti ca yo 'kasmāttaṃ bruvanti gatāyuṣam || yat tūṣṇam iti gṛhṇāti śītam uṣṇaṃ ca śītavat | saṃjātaśītapiḍako yaś ca dāhena pīḍyate || uṣṇagātro 'tigātrañ ca yaḥ śītena pravepate | prahārān nābhijānāti yo 'ṅgacchedam athāpi vā || pāṃśunaivāvakīrṇāni yaś ca gātrāṇi manyate | varṇānyatā vā rājyo vā yasya gātre bhavanti hi || snātānuliptaṃ yaṃ cāpi bhajante nīlamakṣikāḥ | sugandhirvā'ti yo 'kasmāt taṃ bruvanti gatāyuṣam || viparītena gṛhṇāti rasān yaś copayojitān | upayuktāḥ kramādyasya rasā doṣābhivṛddhaye || yasya doṣāgnisāmyaṃ ca kuryur mithyopayojitāḥ | yo vā rasān na saṃvetti gatāsuṃ taṃ pracakṣate || sugandhaṃ vetti durgandhaṃ durgandhasya sugandhitām | gṛhṇīte vā 'nyathā gandhaṃ śānte dīpe ca nīrujaḥ || rātrau sūryaṃ jvalantaṃ vā divā vā candravarcasam | ameghopaplave yaś ca śakracāpataḍidguṇān || taḍittvato 'sitān yo vā nirmale gagane ghanān | vimānayānaprāsādair yaś ca saṃkulamambaram || yaś cānilaṃ mūrtimantam antarikṣaṃ ca paśyati | dhūmanīhāravāsobhir āvṛtām iva medinīm || pradīptam iva lokaṃ ca yo vā plutam ivāmbhasā | bhūmim aṣṭāpadākārāṃ lekhābhir yaś ca paśyati || yo vā mayūrakaṇṭhābhaṃ vidhūmam vahnim īkṣate | dhruvam ākāśagaṅgāṃ vā taṃ bruvanti gatāyuṣaṃ jyotsnādarśoṣṇatoyeṣu chāyāṃ yaś ca na paśyati | paśyaty ekāṅgahīnāṃ vā vikṛtāṃ vā'nyasattvajām || śvakākakaṅkagṛdhrāṇāṃ pretānāṃ yakṣarakṣasām | piśācoraganāgānāṃ bhūtānāṃ vikṛtām api || svasthaḥ sa labhate vyādhiṃ vyādhito mṛtyum arcchati || || vraṇapraśnam vraṇāsrāvaṃ kṛtyākṛtyavidhin tathā | vyādhyuddeśīyam adhyāyaṃ śastrakarmmāṣṭakan tathā || praṇaṣṭaśalyavijñānaṃ śalyāpanayanam eva ca | viparītavraṇajñānaṃ dūtasvapnaviparyayaṃ || pañcendriyārthavibhrāntim proktaṃ vai tṛtīyo daśa ||

[Adhyāya 31, collation] athātaś cchāyāvipratipattim vyākhyāsyāmaḥ || śyāvā lohitikā nīlāḥ pītikā vāpi dehināṃ | abhidravanti yañ chāyā sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | hrīr apakrāmati yataḥ kāntismṛtidhṛtiśriyaḥ | akasmād yaṃ bhajante ca sa parāsur asaṃśayam | yasyādharauṣṭhaḥ patitaḥ kṣiptaś cordhan tathottaraḥ | ubhau vā jāmbavābhāsau sa parāsur asaṃśayam | āraktā daśanā yasya śyāvā vā syuḥ patanti vā | khāñjanapratibho vāpi taṃ gatāyuṣam ādiśet | kṛṣṇā snigdhāvaliptā vā jihvā śūnā ca yasya vai | karkaśā ca bhaved yasya so cirād vijahāty asūn | kuṭilā sphuṭitā vāpi śūnā vā yasya nāsikā | bhagnā vā sphurate vāpi sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | saṃkṣipte viṣame stabdhe rakte supte ca locane | yasya syātāṃ śrute vāpi sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | na dhārayati yaḥ śīrṣan nāharanty annam āsyagaṃ | ekāgradṛṣṭir mūḍhātmā sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | balavān durbalo vāpi sammohaṃ yo dhigacchati | utthāpyamāno bahuśaḥ sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | uttānaḥ sarvadā śete | pādau vikurute ca yaḥ | viprasāraṇaśīlo vā sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | śītapādakarocchvāsaḥ chinnaśvāsaś ca yo bhavet | kākocchvāsaś ca yo martyaḥ sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | nidrā na cchidyate yasya yo vā jāgartti sarvadā | muhyed vā vaktukāmaś ca pratyākhyeyaḥ sa jānatā | parilihed uttaroṣṭham uṅgarāṃś ca karoti vā | pretair vā bhāṣate sārdhaṃ sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | khebhyaḥ saromakūpebhyo yasya raktaṃ pravarttate | puruṣasyāviṣārttasya sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | vātāṣṭhīlā tu hṛdaye yasyordhvam anuyāyinī | rujānnavidveṣakarī sa parāsur asaṃśayaṃ | ananyopadravakṛtaḥ pādaḥ śophaḥ samutthitaḥ puruṣaṃ hanti nārīñ ca mukhajo guhyajo dvayaṃ | atīsāro jvaro dhmānaṃ charddiḥ śūnāṅgameḍhratā | kāsina svāsino vāpi yasya taṃ kṣīṇam ādiśet | svedo dāhaś ca balavāṃ hikkā śvāsaś ca mānavaṃ | balavantam api prāṇair viyuñjanti na saṃśayaṃ | śyāvā jihvā bhaved yasya savyaṃ cākṣi nimajjati mukhaṃ ca jāyate pūtir yasya taṃ parivarjayet | netre cāmreṇa pūryete svidyete caraṇau tathā | cakṣuś cākulatāṃ yāti yamarāṣṭraṃ gamiṣyataḥ | atimātraṃ laghūni syur gātrāṇy atigurūṇi vā | yasyākasmāt sa vijñeyo gantā caiva yamālayaṃ | paṅkamatsyavasātailaghṛtagandhāś ca ye narāḥ | piṣṭagandhāṃś ca ye vānti gatās te yamasādanaṃ | yūkā lalāṭam āyānti balin nāśnanti vāyasāḥ | yeṣāñ cāpi ratin nāsti gatās te yamasādanaṃ | jvarātīsāraśophā syur yasyānyonyāvasādinaḥ | prakṣīṇañ ca balaṃ yasya na sa śakyaś cikitsituṃ | kṣīṇasya yasya kṣuttṛṣṇe hṛdyair mṛṣṭair hitais tathā | annapānair nna sāsyete tasya mṛtyur upasthitaḥ | pravāhikā śiraḥśūlaṃ koṣṭhaśūlaś ca dāruṇa | pipāsā balahāniś ca tasya mṛtyur upasthitaḥ | viṣameṇopacāreṇa karmabhiś ca purākṛtaiḥ | anityatvāc ca jantūnāṃ jīvitaṃ nidhanam vrajet | pretā dūtāḥ piśācāś ca rakṣāṃsi vividhāni ca | maraṇīyan naran nityam upasarpanti sarvadā tāni bheṣajavīryāṇi pratinighnanti sarvadā | tasmān mohāḥ kriyās sarvā bhavantīha gatāyuṣam iti || 31 ||
