kuṭṭha appears to be the
transmitted form, possibly Sanskritized to
kuṣṭha by the scribe of MS H. It is
not obvious how it could be a scribal error for the

Emending anvaya against the Nepalese MSS is required
to make syntactic sense of the passage. Dr. P. Maas
pointed out the parallel with the mention of
kula ``family'' as one of the
qualifiers for a student, in
Carakasaṃhitā 3.8.8.

kṛtamaṅgalasvastivācanaṃ is an
emendation based on the similar text at Su.śā.3.2.25. Ḍalhaṇa recorded the alternative
reading bhakṣyaviśeṣair vā before
bālakrīḍanakaiḥ pralobhya in the

pañcadaśakarṇakṛtayaḥ (instead of
pañcadaśasandhānākṛtayaḥ). Ḍalhaṇa
(1.16.10) also mentioned that some read
samunnatasamobhayapāliḥ (instead of
vṛttāyatasamobhayapālir) and others
do not read saṃkṣiptādayaḥ
pañcāsādhyāḥ.The additional verses in A
(from bhavanti cātra to śāstravit) were
probably also absent in the version of the
Suśrutasaṃhitā commented on by Cakrapāṇi,
who cited them in his commentary as being "read by some"
in regard to the joins (sandhāna) they

viśeṣataś cāgropaharaṇīyāt has been
emended to viśeṣataś cātropaharet to
make sense of the list of ingredients, which is in the
accusative case. Also, the repetition of
agropaharaṇīyāt in the MSS suggests
that its second occurrence, which does not make good sense

that some read sarpis in the place of
payas. In the compound beginning
with arka, Ḍalhaṇa noted that some read

vividhāḥ kuryustasmād etān viśodhayet || tato vraṇaṃ
samunnamya sthāpayitvā yathāsthitam | sīvyet
sūkṣmeṇa sūtreṇa valkenāśmantakasya vā ||
śaṇajakṣaumasūtrābhyāṃ snāyvā bālena vā punaḥ |
mūrvāguḍūcītānair vā sīvyed vellitakaṃ śanaiḥ || sīvyed
gophaṇikāṃ vā'pi sīvyed vā tunnasevanīm |
ṛjugranthimatho vā'pi yathāyogamathāpi vā || deśe
'lpamāṃse sandhau ca sūcī vṛttā'ṅguladvayam | āyatā
tryaṅgulā tryasrā māṃsale vā'pi pūjitā || dhanurvakrā
hitā marmaphalakośodaropari | ity etās
trividhāḥ sūcīs tīkṣṇāgrāḥ susamāhitāḥ ||
kārayenmālatīpuṣpavṛntāgraparimaṇḍalāḥ | nātidūre
nikṛṣṭe vā sūcīṃ karmaṇi pātayet || dūrādrujo
vraṇauṣṭhasya sannikṛṣṭe 'valuñcanam || atha
kṣaumapicucchannaṃ susyūtaṃ pratisārayet |
priyaṅgvañjanayaṣṭyāhvarodhracūrnaiḥ samantataḥ ||
śallakīphalacūrnṇair vā kṣaumadhyāmena vā punaḥ | tato vraṇaṃ
yathāyogaṃ baddhvā+ācārikam ādiśet || etad
aṣṭavidhaṃ karma samāsena prakīrtitam | cikitsiteṣu
kārtsnyena vistaras tasya vakṣyate ||
hīnātiriktaṃ tiryak ca gātracchedanamātmanaḥ | etāś
catasro 'ṣṭavidhe karmaṇi vyāpadaḥ smṛtāḥ |
ajñānalobhāhitavākyayoga
bhayapramohair aparaiś ca bhāvaiḥ | yadā
prayuñjīta bhiṣak kuśastraṃ
tadā sa śeṣān kurute vikārān || taṃ
kṣāraśastrāgnibhir auṣadhaiś ca
bhūyo 'bhiyuñjānam ayuktiyuktam | jijīviṣur
dūrata eva vaidyaṃ
vivarjayed ugraviṣāhitulyam || tad eva
yuktaṃ tv atimarmasandhīn
hiṃsyāt sirāḥ snāyum athāsthi caiva |
mūrkhaprayuktaṃ puruṣaṃ kṣaṇena
prāṇair viyuñjyādathavā kathaṃcit || bhramaḥ
pralāpaḥ patanaṃ pramoho
viceṣṭanaṃ saṃlayanoṣṇate ca | srastāṅgatā
mūrcchanam ūrdhvavāta
s tīvrā rujo vātakṛtāś ca tās tāḥ ||
māṃsodakābhaṃ rudhiraṃ ca gacchet
sarvendriyārthoparamas tathaiva |
daśārdhasaṃkhyeṣv api hi kṣateṣu sāmānyato marmasu liṅgam uktam ||
surendragopapratimaṃ prabhūtaṃ
raktaṃ sraved vai kṣatataś ca vāyuḥ | karoti
rogān vividhān yathoktāṃś
chinnāsu bhinnāsv athavā sirāsu || kaubjyaṃ
śarīrāvayavāvasādaḥ
kriyāsv aśaktis tumulā rujaś ca | cirād vraṇo
rohati yasya cāpi
taṃ snāyuviddhaṃ manujaṃ vyavasyet ||
śophātivṛddhis tumulā rujaś ca
balakṣayaḥ parvasu bhedaśophau | kṣateṣu
sandhiṣv acalācaleṣu syāt
sandhikarmoparatiś ca liṅgam || ghorā rujo
yasya niśādineṣu
sarvāsv avasthāsu na śāntir asti |
tṛṣṇā'ṅgasādau śvayathuś ca rukṣaḥ
tam asthividdhaṃ manujaṃ vyavasyet || yathāsvam
etāni vibhāvayeyur
liṅgāni marmasv abhitāḍiteṣu | sparśaṃ na
jānāti vipāṇḍuvarṇo
yo māṃsamarmaṇy abhitāḍitaḥ syāt ||
ātmānamevātha jaghanyakārī śastreṇa yo hanti hi karma kurvan |
tamātmāvānātmahanaṃ kuvaidyaṃ vivarjayed āyurabhīpsamānaḥ ||
tiryakpraṇihite śastre doṣāḥ purvamudāhṛtāḥ | tasmāt
pariharan doṣān kuruyācchastranipātanam || mātaraṃ
pitaraṃ putrān bāndhavānapi cāturaḥ |
apyetānabhiśaṅketa vaidye viśvāsameti ca ||
visṛjatyātmanā+ātmānaṃ na cainaṃ pariśaṅkate | tasmāt
putravadevainaṃ pālayed āturaṃ bhiṣak || dharmārthau
kīrtim ity arthaṃ satāṃ grahaṇam uttamam | prāpnuyāt
svargavāsaṃ ca hitamārabhya karmaṇā || karmaṇā
kaścidekena dvābhyāṃ kaścittribhis tathā | vikāraḥ
sādhyate kaścic caturbhir api karmabhiḥ ||
