ubhayor api cāpoddhṛtasyāsatyatvaṃ samānaṃ | tathā hi aniya
tānvayavyatirekanibaṃdhano vākyavādināṃ padāpoddhāraḥ || khaevaṃ padavādināṃ śāstreyānvayavyatirekanimi
ttārthāpoddhāravaśaḥ prakṛtipratyayāpoddhāraḥ | yad āha vākyakāraḥ | siddhaṃ tv anvayavyatirekābhyām iti | tatra bhinna
tvaṃ sāmānyaṃ dvidhetyādiko viśeṣa iti vidhārthe dhāpratyayopapāttiḥ prakāro hi vidhārthaḥ sa ca sāmānyasya bheda
ko viśe
khyā kaiścid amyubhyupagamyata iti coktaṃ yadi vātra buddhirūpaprakalpitaṃ sādṛśyam eva vidhārthaḥ jñānapratibiṃbi
tasya hi bāhyānukāritvena sādṛśyaṃ sarvatra prakārārthaḥ saṃkalpitasadṛśasyābāhyasyānirvarnanāt_ vākyāc cā
podhriyamāṇasya padasya vākyārthāṃtarāparikalpanayārthavata evāpoddhāro yuktaḥ arthāpoddhāra eva hi padā
poddhārasya nimittaṃ animitte hi tasmin varṇāpoddhārasyāpi prasaṃgāt teṣām api vyutpādyatā syāt_ |
vā
kyārthaś ca sthitalakṣaṇo niraṃśaḥ kārakotkalīnaśarīrakriyāsvabhāvaḥ | tatra cāṃśāṃ¯śikalpanayāpoddhāre
kārakātmā kriyātmā na pravibhāgārha iti siddhasādhyalakṣaṇāṃśadvayaviṣayaḥ, padāpoddhāro dvividhaḥ nā
mākhyātarūpaḥ prāthamakalpitaḥ śaktiśaktimator abhedāt_ kārakātmā siddharūpo ṃśaḥ yady api ca nāmapadā
nāṃ pratyayārthasya saṃkhyādeḥ śāṃbdaṃ prādhānyaṃ tathāpy arthataḥ prātipadikārtharthasya jyajātyādyaṃ kuritasya
pātopasargakarmapravacanīyalalakṣaṇaḥ padabhedo ṃtarbhavati
tathā hi siddhārthābhidhāyi nāmapadam iti tadarthagataṃ
viśeṣaṃ dyotayannipātaḥ tatraivāṃtarbhavati | siddhaṃ hy arthaṃ sākṣād vābhidadhātu tadgataṃ viśeṣaṃ vā
tā bhedaḥ
khyāte ṃtarbhāvaḥ | na hi tiṅaṃtam evākhyātaṃ kriyāpradhānasya sarvasyaiva tallakṣaṇatvāt | ata evopasargakarmaprava
canīyapadāny apy ākhyātapadam eva sādhyārthaviśeṣadyotanāt_ evaṃ nipāto pi o
topasargayor api kaiścit pṛthakkaraṇaṃ tathā hi asty evāpoddhā
vadataḥ api ta
śeṣadyotakatvān nipātānāṃ sādhyaikargargāṇāṃ parasparato bhedaḥ karmapravacanīyās tu kri
ya
sargeṣv evāṃtarbhavaṃtīti caturvidhaiva kaiścit padaṃ bhinnaṃ
sākṣāt kriyāviśeṣaprakāśanābhāvāt tad api paṃcamaṃ pa
saṃbhavo na tu vartamānasyety upasargebhyobhyo bhedaḥ kriyāgataviśeṣadyotananapūrvakaṃ hi saṃvaṃdhāvachedanam atra vartamānaṃ ta
thā hi sarvaḥ saṃvaṃdhaḥ kriyākṛtaḥ upakārakriyovitatvāt tasya kriyām āṃtareṇa rūpakārābhāvāt_ tatra kvacit kriyāśa
bdaḥ śrūyate kvacin na yatra śrūyate tatra śrauta eva saṃbaṃdhaviśeṣa
jānīta ityādau kriyā hi svabhāvād eva kriyāṃtaravyadhānam aṃtareṇa dravyaiḥ saṃyujyavate yasmān mātāpitṛviṣaye
pravartate vatiṣṭhate vā tasmān mātāpitṛsaṃvaṃdhīdaṃ smaraṇam iti kriyākārakabhāvapūrvaka evāyam api saṃbandha
iti varṇayaṃti
aśrute tu kriyāpade dvayī gatiḥ | kvacit saṃvaṃdhasvarūpamahimnaiva kriyāpekṣasiddheḥ pratiniyata
kriyākārakabhāvapūrvakatvaṃ śeṣasaṃvaṃdhasya (parasparam ākṣepyākṣepakabhāvasyāvinābhāvena nyāyyatvāt_ tad yathā pravi)
śa piḍāṃm ityādau | nāpi saṃvaṃdhavācitvam atrānoḥ vibhaktyaiva tadabhidhānād iti saṃvaṃdhāvachedasya pratyāyako nānyaḥ)
saṃbhavatīti
kaḥ | nāpi kriyāpadākṣepī saṃvaṃdhasya tu bhedaka iṃ iti ledako viśeṣakodyotaka ity arthaḥ | ayam atra bhāvaḥ | yad a)
nyathāsiddhaṃ tatrānor vyāpāra
nimitto vayavāvayavisaṃbaṃdhaś ca sthitikriyānimitta ityādi | kvacit tu saṃbaṃdhānāṃ pratiniyatakriyāpūrvakatvāvadhā
raṇe nāsti sāmarthyaṃ tad yathā rājñaḥ puruṣa ity atra svasvāmibhāvo bharaṇādya·nekakriyānimitta ity evāvagamyate |
kriyāviśeṣo nāvadhāryate tannimittabhūtaḥ | tathā ca bhāṣyaṃ yad etat svaṃ nāma tac caturbhiḥ prakārair bhavati bharaṇād apahara
ṇāt krayaṇāghād yācñayeti | dānādīnāṃ tv ananyatamāvinābhāvāt kriyānumīyata eva kvacit tv avinābhāvinī kriyā
pi na pratīyate tathā caivaṃjātīyake viṣaye karmapravacanīyo niyataviśiṣṭakriyākṛtatvaṃ saṃbaṃdhasya viśeṣam avagama
yati | tad uktaṃ | janayitvā kriyā kācit saṃvaṃdhaṃ vinivarttate | śrūyamāṇe kriyāśabde saṃvaṃdho jāyate kvacit | sa
copajātaḥ saṃvaṃdho vinivṛtte kriyāpade | karmapravacanīyena yatra tatra niyamyate iti niyamas tasya niyatakriyājani
tatvaṃ tathā hi śākalyasya saṃhitām anu prāvarṣat_ iti yo yaṃ saṃhitāpravarṣaṇayor hetuhetumadbhāvalakṣaṇaḥ saṃvaṃdhaḥ
sa niyatakriyājanita ity anunā vevedyate | anuśamyety atrānor niśamayatikriyāsāhacaryopalabdher iha saṃpāṭha
rūpatvāt saṃhitāyās tadanunumānasyaucityāt tatra kriyāvacanatvam asyānyatra dṛ
dyotyārthaniṣṭhaṃ ca
dyotakatvam iti tad api kriyāpadāprayogād atra nāsti na ca kriyāpadākṣepakatvaṃ yathā prādeśaṃ viparilikhatīty atra
tsamucitakridhākṣepaḥ iha tu saṃhitām iti śaiṣikīyaṃ vibhaktir iti kathaṃ kriyākṣepaḥ kriyākārakayor eva pahaspara
m ākṣepyākṣepakabhāvasyāvinābhāvena nyāyyatvāt_ tad yathā praviśa piṃḍīm ityādau | nāpi saṃvaṃdhavācitvam atrānoḥ
vibhaktyaiva tadabhidhānād iti saṃbaṃdhāvachedasya pramātyāyako nānyaḥ saṃbhavatīti pāriśeṣyād anor atra sāma
dhyavasīyate | tad uktaṃ | kriyayā
bhedako viśeṣako dyotaka ity arthaḥ | ayam atra bhāvaḥ | yad ā
rthasāmarthyādinā sidhyati na tatra tasya śaktiḥ kalpayituṃ pāryate iti padāṃtarāṇām arthāṃtaranive
sya tato navagatasya karmapravacanīyaviṣayatā siddhā | nanu ca yad atrādhikyaṃ vākyārthaḥ sa iti kriyāviśeṣajani
tatvalakṣaṇaḥ saṃvaṃdhasyāvachedo vākyārthaḥ kim iti na kathyate anos tu paścāt_bhāvamātravṛttitvam eveti ||

cyate || || ihādhikyaṃ vākyārthatvenocyamānaṃ padārthapṛthaṣṭhapātitvenaivānusaraṇīyaṃ na tu padārtho
ttadvākyopāttasya hi sādhyasya vā viśeṣyasya vopāttair eva sādhanair viśeṣaṇaiś ca saṃsargas tatrādhikyaṃ | tad yathā | gāṃ śu
ktām ānaya | nīlotpalam iti ca ata evocyate | āśrayāśrayiṇor vākyāt_ niyamas tv avatiṣṭhate iti | iyaṃ cā
yitum iti karmapravacanīyaviṣaya evāyaṃ | yad vakṣyati | nimittaniyamaḥ śabdāt saṃbaṃdhasya na gṛhyate | karmapravacanī
yais tu sa viśeṣe varudhyate iti | atra ca darśanaradvayaṃ svarūpeṇaiva saṃvaṃdhānakarmapravacanīyena saṃvaṃdho
vachidyate kriyāviśeṣajanitatvena veti tatra svarūpeṇāvachede ṣaryāpa
locanālabhyā | tathā hi | adhi vrahmadatte paṃcālā iti svasvāmibhāvo 'aṃ saṃvaṃdha ity avi
svāmīśvaraḥ pū
ca saṃbaṃdho nyāyya ity avagamyate | evam abhimanyur arjunataḥ pratīti pratinā sādṛśyalakṣaṇo yaṃ saṃvaṃdha iti dyotya
te | sa punaḥ saṃvaṃdhiśvasvarūpaparyālocanād atra saṃpraharaṇādikriyākṛta ity avagamyate | itthaṃ ca śākalya saṃhi
tām anu prāvarṣad ity atrāpi hetuphalabhāvo nāmāyaṃ saṃvaṃdha ity etāvaty evāyam anur viśrāmyati pāṭhaviśi
tvāt saṃhitāyā niśamanakriyāvagatiḥ śabdaśravaṇena hi devo varṣad iti saṃvaṃdhimahimno viśiṣṭaikriyā
prabhāvitatvam ahavasīyate | kecid iyān anor eva vyāpāra ity āhuḥ |
svarūpāvachede pi ca kriyāyāḥ kāryabhū
tasaṃvaṃdhāpekṣayātītatvāt karma proktavaṃta ity arthaḥ | samaṃ nety eva vastutaḥ kriśakava
canīyakṛta iti rāddhāṃtaḥ | adhi vrahmadatte paṃcālā iti paripālanakriyāhitatvaṃ svasvāmibhāvasyādhinā vyajya
te | abhimanyur arjunataḥ capatrayayojyaṃ | sustutam atistutam ityādau tu suḥ pūjāyām atir atikramaṇe cetyādinā karmapravacanīyasaṃjñāthothoktaṃ | karmapravacanīyatvaṃ kriyāyo
ge vidhīyate | ṣatvādivinivṛtyarthaṃ svatyādīnāṃ hi dharmaṇām iti | arthena tu rūpeṇa vibhāge prastute kriyā
viśeṣāvadyotaāi
ddhārārthaviśeṣāśrayeṇa yathāsaṃbhavaṃ bhedo niraṃśakavākyavyutpatyupāyabhūtaḥ pra
padaṃ vākyavyutpatyanaṃgatvā
yavad iti dṛṣṭāṃtapakṣanikṣiptam iti nāvyāptiḥ | padāt kilāsāv apoddhāro na vākyāt_

arthadvāreṇa padaṃ parīkṣyata i
padārthāntaraṃ sūcitaṃ jātiviśiṣṭadravyābhidhānam iti | ata eva tad eva saṃkalanārūpaṃ padārthāv iti sphuṭī
kṛtam | anyathā vārthe prakrānte cārthopasaṃhāro 'yaṃ nopapadyate tadvadabhidhāne ca anabhidhānaṃ tāvad dvayor api samānam
viramya vyāpārābhāvāc chabdasyakārthas tu jātidravyayor guṇapradhānabhāvaḥ | yad vā prādhānyenaiva bhinnaṣayata
yā pāṇinidarśane jātidravye śabdenābhidhīyete ity ayam atra pakṣaḥ padārthau ity uktaḥ | tatra nāmapadasya gaur ity āde
r gotvādijātiḥ niyatakriyā
nāśrayāyā jāter anupapatteḥ | sāmarthyāt pratīstauṃtaṃ dravyam |
evam ākhyātapadasyāpi vibhinnakriyātnakṣaṇasama
vetābhinnābhidhānapratyayahetukriyā jātiviṣayā sākṣād vācakaśaktiḥ | kārakāṃkādijātis tv atra guṇabhū
tā nāmapadagatayā ca kārakajātyā kriyājātir ākhyātapadamagatā vyaktidvāreṇa samanvayam eti dravya
jātis tv ekārthasamāavāyāt sādhanaśaktidvāreṇa kriyāyogam anubhavati saṃkhyājātir apy ekārthasam
vāyāt svavyakātmanā śaktimukhenaiva kriyānvayam etīti sarvapadārthasam
rthaḥ yathā cotkṣepaṇādikṣaṇai saramayabhāvibhir apy āvṛttyotkṣepaṇatvādijātir a
tvam upapadyate |
upasargādir apy atra darśane nāmākhyātasahabhāvī tadarthasya viśeṣāvadyotakatvāj jātipadārtha eva |
viśeṣasya viśiṣṭaviśrāntasyaivāvasāyāt karmapravacanīyo 'pi saṃbandhajātiniṣṭha eva guṇaśabdānām api śuklādī
nāṃ guṇajātir vācyā saṃjñāśa
tad itthaṃ vājapyāyanā
cāryasatena sārvatrikī jātipadārthavyavasthopapadyate | vyāḍimate tu sarvaśabdānāṃ dravyam arthaḥ, tasyaiva sākṣāt kri
yāsamanvayopapatter vākyārthāṅgatayā codanāviṣayatvāt yathāha |codanāsu ca tasyārambhāt iti |
ekajātisama
nvayavaśena cātra saṃketopapattiḥ | anabhidhīyamānāpi jātir upalakṣaṇīkriyate śabdārthe, yathā gṛhādau kākā
diḥ | ākhyāte 'pi ca sādhanādhāradravyaprādhīnyaṃ vyāḍimate devadattaḥ pacatīti dravyeṇaiva sākṣāt sāmānādhika
raṇyopapatteḥ | kriyā tu guṇabhūtātra, vyāpārāviṣṭaṃ hi dravyam ākhyātārthaḥ ❈ idaṃ tad iti sarvanāmapratyavamarśayogyaṃ
vā dravyam iti sārvatrikīyaṃ vyavasthā tathā ca vakṣyati |dravyadharmā padārthe tu dravye sarvo 'rtha ucyate iti | ata eva ca śu
klādīnām api dravyapadārthatā siddhā | tattadupādhivyavacchinnaṃ vā brahma dravyaśabdavācyaṃ sarvaśabdānāṃ viṣaya
iti vakṣyata eva vyaktiparyāyo vā dravyaśabda iti | jātivyaktivikākalpena sarvaśabdaviṣayaḥ tathā ca sarvaśa
apoddhārapadārtho jātivyaktibhedena samāmnātaḥ | ubhayasyāpi vā śabdāt pratīter ubhayaṃ padārthaḥ guṇapradhānabhāvabhe
dārthaśrayas tu matavikalpaḥ nityatvopavarṇanaṃ ca siddhe śabdārthasaṃbandhe ity atra bhāṣye yasmiṃs tattvaṃ na vihanyate iti
dravyasyāpi nityatvam, pravāhanityatayā śabdāt sadaiva vā pratīteḥ || 2 ||
tad evam etad anaṃtarakāṃḍe darśanadvayam upapāditam iti yathāsaṃbhavaṃ pratinidhiś ca ciṃ
titaḥ || || idānīṃ jātau śabdenābhidhīyamānāyāṃ tatra jā
tety āśaṃkyopapādayitum āha ||
soṃdhāraṇatvena viśeṣaṇā tayā saṃvaṃdhāvyabhicāraḥ | śabdasyārthajātyā saṃvaṃdhavyabhicāraḥ | tayā śabdasyārthajā
tyā saṃvaṃdhavyabhicore pīti sa jātir eva mukhyam abhidheyem ity uktaṃ bhavati | tathā va vākyakāraḥ na vā śabdapūrvako
hy arthe saṃpratyaya iti sata pavāvyabhicāriṇyā svarūpajāter arthajātyabhidhāne śabdasya nāṃtarīyakam abhidhā
nam iti prathamam ity āha yadābhedena yatpratipattiḥ tadāvaśyaṃ tatra pratipattavyam ity etāvatātra prāthamya
krameṇābhidhānāt | yad vāṃ saṃvadhavyutpattikālāpekṣaṃ prāthamyaṃ | tathā hi saṃśver__t tena śa
bdena na pratipannaḥ yadi ca svājātyabhidhīnaṃ tadānīṃ na syāt_ tadānakatvād vibhaktiyogo na syād iti | prāk saṃt
svarūpaparair arthaparaiś ca tasyā

yanād anaṃtaraṃ arthajātīyānāṃ gotvādīnām ātmasu tasyāḥ śabda
mārthaḥ śabdavivartatvenārthasya śabdā

ity arthajātyā śabdajāter atyaṃtabhedāt sāmānādhikaraṇyānyathānupapatyā'bhedādhyāropaḥ kalpya
te yathā gaur vāhīka iti anyathā saṃketasyaiva kartum aśakyatvāt_ yathā cāyam anādir apauruṣeyo vācyavā
caā
kīkāro bhedānadhya
bdārthayoḥ sadaivābhedāvasāyāt katham iyaṃ prativarṇam anabhivyaktāsādhāraṇa jātir asamasamaya
bhāvibhi varṇair abhivyajyata iti cet_ yathotkṣepaṇamatvādijātir iti vrūmaḥ | tatanām upa
vaśād anavadhāryamāṇa
ṇād viśeṣo nāsti upakrama evottvatna
dy api gānagaganaśabdajanakāt praa
dhāra iti vyaṃjako pi san_ prathamo dhvanir asphuṭam abhivyanaktīty āvartamāno pi rṇa viśadatarasāmānyaviśeṣābhi
vyakto hetuḥ yadāvayavaprabaṃdhaḥ krameṇopalabdho bhavati | atha śabdajātiviśeṣopādhiyuktā vyavahārā avati
ṣṭhaṃte | tadānīṃ sāhacaryāt parasparāvachedavaśena vilakṣaṇatayā pratibhāsanāt | yathā ca ślokaḥ sakṛt paṣamā
no nāvadhāryate | abhyāsena tu sphuṭāvabhāsaḥ tathā caramacetasi cakāsti rabha
ter ābhāsamātraṃ janyate bhatasaṃsmāraviśeṣotpā
danadvāreṇābhivyaktiviśeṣasyasya ratnatatvādau daṣṭeḥ tasmāc chabdād arthaṃ pratipathāmaha iti vyavahārād varṇānām a
rthāvasāyajanakatvānupapatteḥ prakriyānaṃgasyā prathamakāṃḍa eva vihitatvān niravayaṃvaka pratyāyakaṃ śabdatatvaṃ
tapur vyavavahāryo rthaḥ tatra ca svarūpasya vācyatā prathamakāṃḍa eva nirṇītā haiha tu saṃvaṃdhamuddeśe pi nirṇeṣyate |
abhidhāvyāpāralakṣaṇatvam eva vyaktayati ||
|| jātau padārthe iti pakṣāvachedaṃ karoti a
tra hi pakṣe sarva eva hi śabdo jātibhāvācīty abhyupagaṃtavyaṃ bhavatu mā bhūj jātiṣu jātiśabdais tu jātir vyatiriktayā jā
tyaikasvabhāvaivāpekṣyate pratyāyyatvenākriyate svālakṣaṇyena hi vastūnāṃ bhedaḥ śabdai spaṣṭaṃ na śakyate manveyirūpāve
śena saṃvaṃdhaḥ kāvyutpattau śabdasya
lpena tā abhidhīyaṃte abhedaś ca sāmānyam iti siddham ekaśabdatvaṃ jātaya iti
sarvaśabdaviṣayatvam evābhivyanaktiṃ
sarvabhāveṣu sadrū
paṃ sāmānyam anugavaṃ abhāvasyāpi budhyākāreṇa nirūpaṇāt_
mavetā yathopādhyupagṛhītanānātvā sattaivābhidhāyakam āpadyate siddhasādhyarūpārthadvayātmanā ca tasyā e
va ca vṛttais tadapārarāśyabhāvā¯¯¯ sarvaśabdaviṣayatvaṃ sattāyāḥ pratyayabhāgenāpy atra yathāyathaṃ saṃkhyākā
rādyupādhiviśiṣṭā sattaivābhidhīyate
ete sattā
mātrasyātmano mahataḥ ṣaḍ viśeḥṣapariṇāmāḥ yataḥ paraṃ viśeṣebhyo ligaṃmātraṃ mahattattvaṃ tasminn ete sattāmātre mahāpraṃsaṃsṛjyamānāś ca
vasthāya yat taṃ niḥsattāsattaṃ niḥsadasad avyaktam aliṃgaṃ tasmin pratiyaṃtīty evaṃ sāṃkhye buddhitatvaṃ mahachabdavācyam ā
nadyaṃ jagatkāraṇaṃ nirdiṣṭam ity ato naṃtarasya vikāragrāmasya kāraṇarūpānugamāt sattārūpatvam aviruddhaṃm i
ti sattārūpaṃ sarvaṃ jagadākhyātaṃ bha
cyā satāṃ śabdapravṛttinimittabhūteti yathāṃ bhinnopādhibhāvapratyayābhidheyā saiva | nanv evaṃ gotvaṃm iti pra
kṛtipratyayayor ekārthatāprasaṃgaḥ naitat | upāya
