iha padārthāṣṭakavicāraparatvād vākyapadīyasya prathamakāṇḍena prayojanādipadārthe nirṇīte 'nantarakāṇḍopapāditopapattibhir vākyatadarthayor anvā-khyeyasthitalakṣaṇayoḥ padārthayor nirṇītatvāt_ tadaupayikāpoddhārā upapadavicāraḥ prakramyate | tatra niyatavikalpo yathābhiprāyam apoddhāra iti yathāsaṃbhavaṃ padabhedānuddiśati ||

vākyasyaiva niraṃśasya vācakatvād antarā padapratipattiḥ vibhrama iti kim asatyena padena vyutpāditenety āśaṅkyāpoddhṛtyaiva vākyebhya ity āha | apoddhṛtya kalpanābu-ddhyā pṛthaṅ niṣkṛṣyākhaṇḍavākyavyutpattāv upāyaḥ padavyutpattir vākyavādināṃ, akhaṇḍapadavyutpattāv iva parikalpitarūpaprakṛtipratyayāgamādeśādivyutpattiḥ padavādināṃ | ānantyāt_ hi vākyānāṃ svālakṣaṇyenāśakyā vyutpattiḥ kartum iti sadṛśapadadvārā ta-dupapattir ity arthaḥ |

ubhayor api cāpoddhṛtatvasyāsa-tvaṃ samānam | tathā hi | aniyatānupūrvīko yathārthaṃ kalpitānvayavyatirekanibandhano vākyavādināṃ padāpoddhāraḥ | evaṃ padavādināṃ śāstre py anvayavya-tirekanimittārthāpoddhāravaśaḥ prakṛtipratyayāpoddhāraḥ | yad āha vākyakāraḥ | siddhan tv anvayavyatirekābhyām iti || tatra bhinnatvaṃ sāmānyaṃ dvidhetyādiko viśeṣa iti vidhārthe dhāpratyayopapattiḥ | prakāro hi viṃdhārthaḥ | sa ca sāmānyasya bhedako viśeṣaḥ | sādṛśyam eva sarva-tra prakāraḥ kaiścid iṣyata ity ekīyamatam | kaiści-d iti vacanāt_ bhede pi tu prakārākhyā kaiścit_ abhyupagamyate | ity ukteḥ | yadi vātra kubuddhirūpaprakalpitaṃ sādṛśyaṃm eva vidhārthaḥ | jñānapratibimbitasya hi bāhyānu-kāritvena sādṛśyaṃ sarvatra prakārārthaḥ | saṃkalpitasa-dṛśasya bāhyasya nirvartanāt_ vākyāc cāpoddhriyamāṇasya padasya padavākyārthāṃśaparikalpanayārthavata evāpoddhāro yuktaḥ | arthāpoddhāra eva hi padāpoddhārasya nimittam | animitte tasmin_ varṇāpoddhārasyāpi prasaṅgāt | teṣām api vyutpādyatā syāt |

vākyārthaś ca sthitalakṣaṇo niraṃśaḥ kārako-tkalitaśarīraka(kāraka)kriyāsvabhāvaḥ | tatra cāṃśāṃśiparikalpabhayāpoddhāre kātmārakātmā kriyātmā cāṃśo vibhāgārha iti siddhasādhyalakṣa-ṇāṃśadvayaviṣayapadāpoddhāro dvividho nāmākhyātarūpaḥ | prātha-makalpitaḥ śaktiśaktimator abhedāt_ kārakātmā siddharūpo ṃśaḥ yady api ca nāmapadānāṃ pratyayārthasya saṃkhyādeḥ śābdaṃ prādhānyaṃ tathāpy arthataḥ prātipadikārthasya jātyācchuritasya dravyasyaiva prādhānyam | siddharūpasya saṃkhyākārakaśaktīnāṃ tadāśrayatvāt_ nipātopasargakarmapravacanīyalakṣaṇaḥ padabhedo 'ntarbhavati |

sākṣāt_ kriyāviśeṣaprakāśanābhāvāt tu tad api pañcamaṃ padam iti kaiścit | tathā hi | karma proktavantaḥ karmapravacanīyā ity atikrā-ntasya kriyākhyānalakṣaṇasya vyāpārasyātra saṃbhavo na tu vartamānasyety upasargebhyo bhedaḥ | kriyāgataviśeṣadyotanapūrvakaṃ hi sambandhāvacchedanam atra vartamānam | tathā hi sarvaḥ sambandhaḥ kriyākṛtaḥ | upakārakriyocitatvāt tasya kriyām antareṇa upakārābhāvāt | tatra ca kvacit_ kriyāśabdaḥ śrūyate | kvacin na | yatra śrūyate | tatra śrauta eva sambandhaviśeṣāvasāyaḥ | tad yathā (mātuḥ smarati mātuḥ smṛtaṃ sarpiṣo jānīta ityādau | kriyā hi svabhāvād eva kriyāntaravyavadhānam antarā dravyaiḥ saṃyujyate | anye tu yasmān mātṛviṣaye pravartate | avatiṣṭhate vā tasmān mātṛpitṛsambandhīdaṃ smaraṇam iti kriyākārakabhāvapūrvaka evāyam aipi sambandha iti varṇayanti |

aśrute tu kriyāpade dvayī gatiḥ | kvacit sambandhisvarūpam abhinnaiva niyatakriyāpekṣāsiddheḥ pratiniyatakriyākārakabhāvapūrvakatva (nāṃ pratiniyatakriyāpūrvakatvāvadhāraṇe nāsti sāmarthyam |) vinaiva karmapravacanīyam avagagamyate | tad yathā | upagor apatyaṃ vṛkṣasya śākhetyādāv apatyāpatyavat_sambandho janikriyānimitto vayavāvavisambandhaś ca bhidikriyānimittabhūtāḥ nāṃ pratiniyatakriyāpūrvakatvāvadhāraṇenāsti sāmarthyam | tad yathā | rājñaḥ puruṣa ity atra svasvā-mibhāvo bharaṇādyabhedanimitta ity evāvagamyate· nā bhāvini kriyāpi na pratīyate] nimittabhūtaḥ | tathā ca bhāṣyam | yadetat_ svanāma tat_ caturbhiś ca prakārair bhavati | bharaṇād apabharaṇāt_ krayaṇād yabhaṃda vinābhāvini kriyāpi na pratīyate | tathā caivaṃjātīyake viṣaye karmapravaca kācit_ sambandhaṃ vinivartate śrūyamāṇe kriyāśabde sambandho jāyate kvacit || 2 || sa co tathā hi | śākalyasya saṃhitām anu prāvarṣad iti yo yaṃ saṃhitāpravarṣaṇar upalabdher iha sampāṭharūpatvāt_ saṃhitāyās tadanumānasyaucityāt_ tatra kriyāvacanatvam asyānyatrādṛṣṭaśakter na kalpyam |

dyotyārthaniṣṭhañ ca dyotakatvam iti tad api kriyāpadāprayogād atra nāsti na ca prādeśaṃ viparilikhati ity atra ver llikhinā samanvayānupapatter mimitikriyākṣepakatvaṃ kārakavibhakti hy atra prādetiśam iti dvitīyeti yuktas tat_samucitakriyākṣepaḥ | iha tu saṃhiteti śaiṣikīyaṃ vibhaktir iti kathaṃ kriyākṣepaḥ | kriyākārakayor eva parasparam ākṣepyākṣepakabhāvasyāvinābhāvena nyāyyatvāt_ tad yathā praviśapiṇḍīm ityādau nāpi sambandhavācatvam | atrānoḥ vibhaktyaiva tadabhidhānād iti sambandhāvacchedasya pratyāyako nānyas saṃbhavatīti pāriśeṣyād anor atra sāmarthyam adhyavasīyate | tad uktam | kriyayā dyotako nāyan na sambandhasya na vācakaḥ | bhāvikriyāpadākṣepī sambandhasya tu bhedakaḥ || iti 3 || bhedako viśeṣadyotaka ity arthaḥ | ayam atra bhāvaḥ | yad ananyathāsiddhan tatrānor vyāpārakalpanā yuktā | yat punar anyathārthasāmarthyādinā nimittena sidhyati | tasya śakti kalpayituṃ pāryate | iti padāntarāṇām arthāntaraniveśāt_ sambandhaviśeṣasya na tato navagatasya karmapravacanīyaviṣayatā siddhā | nanu ca yad ādhikyaṃ vākyārthas sa iti kriyāviśeṣajanitatvalakṣaṇas sambandhāvacchedo vākyārthaḥ | kim iti na kathyate | anos ta ścāt_bhāvamātravṛttitvañ ceti |

atrocyate | ihādhikyaṃ vākyārthaetvenācyamānaṃ padārthapṛṣṭhapātitvenaivānusaraṇīyam | na tu padā-rthollaṅghanena tad_vākyopāttasya sādhyasya viśeṣyasya vopātte dhanair viśeṣaṇaiś ca saṃsargas tatrādhikyaṃ tad yathā | gāṃ śuklām ānaya nīlotpalam iti ca | ata evocyate | āśrayāśrayiṇor vākyān niyamasn tv avatiṣṭhata iti || itthañ cānupāttasyaiva padārthasya vākyārtha bandhāvacchedo padārtho vākyārthaś śakyate kalpayitum iti karmapravacanīyaviṣayaṃ yam yad vakṣyati nimittaniyamaśabdāt_ sambandhasya na gṛhyate | karmapravacanīyais tu sva ti | atra ca darśanadvayaṃ svarūpeṇaiva sambandhāntarād vilakṣaṇaḥ karmapravacanīyena sambandhe vaccchidyate | kriyāviśeṣajanitatvena veti tatra svarūpeṇāvacchede viśiṣṭapravacanīyaikriyās sambandhiviśeṣaparyālocanālabhyān tathā hy adhibrahmadatte ñcālā iti svasvāmi bhāvo yaṃ sambandha ity adhinā vedyate | brahmadattaś ca svāmīśvaraḥ pañcālāś ca janapadasvam iti tayos sambandhi paripālanakarādānādikriyāprabhāvita evāyaṃ sambandho nyāyya ity avagamyate | evam abhimanyur urjunataḥ pratīti pratibhā salakṣaṇo yaṃ sambandha iti dyotyate | sa punas sambandhisarūpaparyālocanād atra sampraharaṇādikriyākṛta ity avagamyate | itthañ ca śākalyasya saṃhitām anu prāvarṣad ity atrāpi bhebhāvo nāmāyaṃ sambandha ity etāvaty evāyam anur viśrāmyati | pāṭhaviśeṣarūpatvāt tu saṃhitāyā niśamanakriyāvagatiḥ | śabdaśravaṇena hi devo varṣatīti sambandhamahimnā viśiṣṭakriyāprabhāvitatvam avasīyate | kecid iyān anor eva vyāpāra ity āhuḥ |

svarūpāvacchede 'pi kriyāyāḥ kāryabhūtasambandhāpekṣayātītatvāt | karma proktavanta ity arthas samanvety eva | vastutaḥ kriyāphalasyaiva sambandhasya prakāśanāt_ yathā tu tatrabhavat_bhartṛhares tatra tatrābhiprāyo lakṣyate | tathā nimittaviśeṣāvaccheda eva karmapravacanīyakṛta iti rāddhāntam ādhibrahmadatte pañcālā iti paripālanakriyāhitatvaṃ svasvāmibhāvasyādhinā vyajyate | abhimanyur arjunataḥ mitraparājayādikṛto nukāryānukaraṇabhāvaḥ pratinā prakāśyata ityādi sarvatra yojyam || || astutam atistutam ityādau tuvsuḥ pūjāyām atir atitikṣaṇe cetyādinā karmapravacanīyasaṃjñākārika saṃsargasaṃjñābādhanāya pravartate· yathoktam || karmapravacanīyatvam (ślo) vyā·karmapravacanīyatvaṃ kriyāyoge vidhīyate | ṣatvādivinivṛyarthaṃ svatyādīnāṃ vidharmaṇām || 4 || iti | ārthena tu rūpeṇa vibhāge tu prastute kriyāviśeṣadyotakatvād upasargapade svatyādir antarbhavati | iti nāvyāptiḥ | tad evaṃ vākyād apod_dhriyamāṇasya padasyāpoddhārārthaviśeṣāśrayeṇa yathāsaṃbhavaṃ bhedo niraṃśavākyavyutpattāv upāyabhūtaḥ pradarśitaḥ | ata eva ca nvādipadaṃ vākyavyutpatyanaṅgatvāc chastre saṃketitam | subantapadavyutpatyupāyabhūtan neha gaṇanārham | prakṛtipratyayavad iti dṛṣṭāntapakṣanikṣiptam iti nāvyāptiḥ | padā kilāsāṃv apoddhāro na vākyāt |

tad anantarakāṇḍe darśanadvayam upapāditam iti yathāsaṃbhavaṃ pratinidhiś carvita idānīṃ jātau śabdenābhidhīyamānāyān tatra jātyantarābhāvān nirnimittā śabdasya pravṛttitety āśaṃkyopapādayitum āha ||

svā jātiḥ prathamaṃ śabdais sarvair evābhidhīyate | tato rthajātirūpeṣu tadadhyāropakalpanā || 6

svā asādhāraṇī ātmīyā gośabdakalaśasādhāraṇī śabdatvādiḥ evañ cāsādhāraṇītvena viśeṣaṇāt tayā sambandhāvyabhicāraś śabdasyārthajātyā sambandhavyabhicāre pīti svā jāti ·ty uktam_ bhavati | tathā ca vākyakāraḥ | na vā śabdapūrvako hy arthe sampratyaya iti· ata eva cāvyabhicāriṇyā svarūpajāter arthajātyabhidhāne śabdasya nāntarīyakam abhidhānam i bhedena yatpratipattis tad avaśyaṃ pratipattavyam ity etāvatātra prāthamyam | na tu krameṇābhidhānāt | yad vā sambandhavyutpattikālāpekṣaṃ prāthamyam | tathā hi sambandhavyutpattikāsti sambandhaḥ | tatve vācakatvena tatra viniyogo narthakaḥ syāt | arthasya pratipannatvād iti so rthas tāvat tena śabdena na pratipannā | yadi ca svajātyabhidhānīn na syāt | tadānarthakatvād vibhaktiyogo na syād iti prāk_ saṃjñinādisambandhāt_ saṃjñā papadārthikety uktam | rūpaṃ hi svarūpaṃ svā jātitāvac chabdasvarūpeṇāvasthitā jātiḥ pratipādyate | arthasya jhaṭhity eva śabdasvarūpābhedenāvavodhe pi yathāpratipādikakramāśrayeṇa svajātipratyāyanād anantaram arthajātiīnāṃ gotvādīnām ātmanu tasyāś śabdarāśes samāropasya kalpanā na paramārthaḥ | śabdavivarṇatvenyarthasya śabdāt tattvato bhedābhā

yad vā sambandhavyutpattikāle gaur ayam artha ity arthajātyā śabdajāter atyantabhedāya sāmānādhikaraṇyānyathānupapatyā bhedādhyāropaḥ kalpyate | yathā gaur bāhīka iti anyathā saṅketasyaiva kartum aśakyatvāt | yathā cāyam anādir apauruṣeyo vācyavācakabhāvan tathādhyāhāro 'pi· anyathā vācyavācakabhāva eva na ghaṭheta yathā sya dṛśyavikalpārthaikīkāro bhedānadhyavasāyalakṣaṇaḥ | na tu yathā gaur bāhīka ity atra puruṣecchāyādhyāropaḥ | vyavahāre śabdārthayos sadaivābhedādhyavasāyāt_ katham iya prativarṇam anabhivyaktā'sādhāraṇī jātiḥ | ayam asamayabhāvibhiḥ varṇair abhivyajyata iti ced yathotkṣepaṇatvādijātir iti brūmaḥ | tathā hi pratyekaṃ karmakṣaṇānām upavyañjakatve pi yaḥ pratha utkṣepaṇakṣaṇas sa paramāṇumātradeśākarmaṇamātrarūpatvāt_ bhramaṇakṣaṇāt_ sārūpyavaśād anavadhāryamāṇabheda ekaiko nartho niyatajātyabhivyañjana iti kṣaṇāntaram apekṣate | na ca tasya bhramaṇakṣaṇād viśeṣo nāsti | upakrama evotkṣipāmīty evaṃ prayatnajanitatvāt_ evaṃ gośabdam uccārayāmīty ayaṃ prayatno yady api gaganaśabdajanakāt_ prayatna eva hetubhedāc ca gakārayor api bheda eva tathāpi sādṛśyād asau duravadhāra iti vyañjako pi sa prathamo dhvanir asphuṭam abhivyanaktāty āvartamāno pi na vinaviśadatarasāmānyaṣābhivyaktau hetuḥ yadā tv avayavaprapandhaḥ krameṇopalabdho bhavati | ayaṃ śabdajātiviśeṣopādhiyuktā vyavahārā avatiṣṭhante tadānīṃ sāhacaryāt_ parasparāvacchedavaśena vilakṣaṇa pratibhāsanāt_ yathā yathā ca ślokas satat_ pāaṭhayamāno nāvadhāryate | abhyāsena tu sphuṭhāvasāyaḥ· tathā carame cetasi cakāsti ratattvavat_ sphoṭatatvaṃ prathamākṣareṇa hi jāter ābhā taduttarottaravarṇakalāpena tu sphuṭasphuṭagatāsphuṭagatam aparicchedādhānaṃ saṃskāraviśeṣolpādau dvāreṇābhivyaktiviśeṣasya ratnatatvādau dṛṣṭeḥ | tasmāc chabdād artham pratirād varṇānām arthāvasāyajanakatvānupapatteḥ | prakriyābhaṅgasya prathamakāṇḍa eva vihitatvān niravayavam pratyāyakaṃ śabdatattvaṃ jātiviśeṣāvyaktibhedena bhinnaṃ sphoṭhasvabhāvaṃ aṅgīkāryam | rtha iti ca vācakābhedena vācyapratītes tadadhyāsakhacitavapur vyavavahāryo rthaḥ tatra ca svarūpasya vācyatā prathamakāṇḍa eva nirṇītā iha ca sambandhasamuddeśe 'pi nirṇeṣyate·

tatraiva syāt | śabdasamavāyi sāmānyaṃ vyadhikaraṇatvāt_ katham arthajātir abhedeva vyapadiśed ity āśaṃkya darśanenaitat_ vyutpādayati ||

yathā rakte guṇe tatvaṃ kaṣāye vyapadiśyate | saṃyogisannikarṣāc ca vastrādiṣv api gṛhyate | tathā śabdārthasambandhāc chabde jātir avasthitā || vyapadeśe rthajātīnāṃ jātikāryāya kalpate |8

rakte guṇe tatvaṃ tasya rakta guṇasya bhāvo raktatvam | lauhityasāmānyaṃ guṇavyaktisāamavetam ucyate | tat_samavetasamavāyāt_ kaṣāye raktaguṇādhāre dravye vyapadiśyate | vyapadeśāya kalpate | tadviśeṣaṇabhūtaṃ hi kaṣāyadravyam abhidhīyate | lohitā lākṣeti tena saṃyogino vastrādayaḥ tayos saṃyoginoḥ kaṣāyavastrayos sannikarṣas saṃbhedas tasmān nimittāt tatrāpi tallauhityaṃ bhyate | saṃyuktasamavetasamavāyād vastrādiṣv api lohityanimitto vyapadeśo lohitaṃ vastram im ity arthaḥ | tathā śabdārthasambandhād iti lohitaguṇakaṣāyadravyasambandhasthānīyāt_ sāmānādhikaraṇyatayāvasthitāt_ svābhāvikāt_ tathā kevalaṃ vyutpattikāle bhijñātāt_ tathānupapattyaivādhyāropasya kalpanāt | sambandhād eva śabdajātyā vyapadeśaḥ artho tras tasyāṃ eva vācyatvaprakramāt_ vyapadeśe kalpate svarūpābhedena jātikāryāya kalpate | jātyādiśabde jātiṣu vācakatvena pravartamāne sthitā jātir na kevalaṃ vyapadeśāya kalpate | yāvaj jātikāryāya ca atha vā vyapadeśe sati jātikāryāya kalpata ity arthaḥ | nissāmānyāni sāmānyānīty arthajātīnāṃ svato jātirahitatve tat_kāryaṃ śabdapratyayānuvṛttilakṣaṇaṃ śabdārthayos so yam iti abhedena sambandhāc chabdasamavāyini jātir arthe dhyāropitābhedaṃ sampādayanti | tadātmanā sampadya iti upacaryate | vyaktirūpe ca śabde jātes samavāyo na tu varṇeṣv ity avasthitety upapadyate | varṇānāṃ hi yaugapadyābhāvād avācakatvam iti kathan tatra śabdajātes samavāyas syāt | kevalaṃ sphoṭhasya jātivyaktibhedena darśanadvayam iti vyaktisphoṭhe jātiḥ samavetā arthabhedena bhinnasya nityasya śabdasyābhinnābhidhānapratyayahetur jātir avaśyābhyupagantavyā | ata eva ca tathā cchuritasya yā vyakter eva vācakatvam | upalakṣaṇabhūtā taj jātir āśrīyata iti katham atrānaunuyāyinyā vyakter vācakatvam iti na codanīyam ||

śabdārthasambandhaś cātra yogyatālakṣaṇo bhipretaḥ sarvo hi śabdaḥ saṃjñātvena viniyujyamānas sarvatrārthe yogyatālakṣaṇena sambandhena ndhaḥ | kevalaṃ śaktyavacchedamātre saṃjñākartur vyāpāro na tv apūrvasaṃkaraṇe arthasambandhasyāpauruṣeyatvāt | itthañ cādaikṣu vṛddhiśabdo nāpūrvam eva saṃketa sarveṣām anekārthatvād vaktṛbhedād vānekatve samānākārapratyayanibandhanaṃ jātir eṣaṇīyā | tad yathākāśasya saṃyogibhedena kalpitabhedasyānekatve saty ākāśatvaṃ lakṣyavaṃ sarvasmāt_ sarvārthapratītiprasaṅgaḥ | prasiddhivaśenārthapratīteḥ kutracic ca kasyacit_ prasiddhatvāt_ prasiddhānāñ cārthānām arthaprakaraṇādayo vibhāgahetava uktāḥ | tad yathā gośabdena rtheṣu sannihiteṣv api prakaraṇādeḥ pratiniyatārthāvasāyaḥ tad evaṃ śabdajātyā śabdavyaktiḥr vācikā | prathamam abhedena vyapadiśyate· tato rthajātis tatas tad vyaktir ity ayaṃ vāstavaḥ | kramaḥ pratyāyane tv akramataiva

śabdācchuritatve pi cārthasya na svarūpavyapagamaḥ | yathā hy ālokācchurito 'pi ghaṭo na svarūpeṇa tirohito bhavati | evaṃ śabdasvarūpopānno rthasvarūpāoropeṇa śabdālokayor arthaprakāśakatvasyaivaṃvidhasya dṛṣṭeḥ yathā ca gaur bāhīka ity atra na gotvamātraṃ pratīyate | api tv adhyāropitagorūpo vāhīkaḥ evam ihāpi· na tu sphaṭikamaṇāv ihārthe śabdajātes samāveśo vivakṣitaḥ tasyaiva bāhīkavat_ pratyāyyatvāt svābhāvikaś cāyam arthapratyāyane śabdānām abhedasambandho bhyupāya iti pratipādyo pi tathaiva pratipadyate | na hi puruṣādhīnam etat_ anādau saṃsāre tenaiva prakāreṇa sambandhavyutpatteḥ ko tra niyato dhyāropayitā kalpyatām | avyutpannasaṃketasyāpi cābhinnapratyayoter arthajātir aps astīti na śabdajātir evādhyāropitāstv iti sti ceyam evaṃvidhā pratīti cākṣuṣeṇa raktādipratyayena nidarśanabhūtena vyutpāditā | vastusaniveśiātvābhāve pi ca śabdajāter anādir ayam adhyāropo rūḍhas sadaiva vyavahāre śabdārthayor abhedāvasāyāt_ bhedasyāpi ca gaur bāhīka itivat_ pratibhānān mithyājñānam idan na bhavati | prāk_ ca sambandhasaṃvedanasamayād arthajātayo bhedenāvabhānty eva | avyutpannasaṅketasya hi bālakasya puro vasthiteṣu sāsnādimatsu piṇḍeṣv abhinnapratyayam utpadyate | tadā vācakas sannidhānābhāvād abhinnapratyayahetur arthajātir avadhāryate | ata eva kathaṃ bhedenānirdhāritāyām arthajātau śabdajātis samāropyetetyādi na codanīyam |

jātikāryāya kalpata ity uktam evārtham abhivyanakti |

jātiśabdaikaśeṣe sā jātīnāṃ jātir iṣyate | śabdajātaya ity atra tajjātiś śabdajātiṣu ||

ākṛtyabhidhānād vaikaṃ vibhaktau vājapyāyana iti jātipakṣe pratyākhyānād ekaśeṣasya tat_phalam ekaśabdaprayogo traikaśeṣa ity uktaḥ sahavivakṣā vaikaśeṣeṇa lakṣyate· jātiśabdaikaśeṣe prasakte iti vā yojanīyam | seti śabdajātir arthajātīnām abhedau pratyasyamānā jātiśabdagatā jātir ekaśabdatvaṃ sampādayati jātikāryaṃ tad yathā gāvo vṛkṣā ityādibhir abhinnasāmānyanibandhanas tadekārthasamavāyāt_ samāśritaviśiṣṭasaṃkhya ekaśabdaprayogaḥ tathā jātaya imā ity ayam api jātyāśrayāparajātyabhāvād vācakajātyadhyāsāśraya upapadyate | śabdagatañ ca sāmānyaṃ jātikāryam upacarati | ity ucyate· na tv arthajāveti niyamaḥ kenacit_ kṛta iti yadā śabdajātayo pi pratyāyās tadā tāsv apy abhidhānakṛtaṃ jātikāryāya kalpata evety āha | śabdajātaya ity atretyādi tajjātiś śabdajāti śabdagataṃ sāmānyaṃ śabdajātaya imā ity atraikaśabdaprayoge tasyoccaritasya śabdajātiśabdasya yā jātis sā śabdajātiṣu | gośabdatvādikāsu vyaktisthānīyāsu pratipādyāsv abhinnaśabdaprayoganibandhanam ity arthaḥ

yady evaṃ śabdajātiśabdagatānām api jātīnām anyā vācakajātis tāsām apy anyety anavasthāprasaṅga ity āśaṃkyāha ||

yā śabdajātiśabdeṣu śabdebhyo bhinnalakṣaṇā | jātis sā śabdajātitvam apy atikramya vartate ||10

prayoktṛbhedād bahuṣu śabdajātiśabdeṣv abhinnapratyayanibandhanaṃ yā jātis tebhya eva śabdebhya svāśrayabhiūtebhyo bhinnasvabhāvā sā gośabdatvādiśabdaś__jātivargāntaḥpāti na tu vyapadeśārhā śabdajātiśabdasyāpi gośabdatvādivac chabdatvād ity śabdajātaya ity anenaivaikaśabdaprayogeṇa sāpi pratyāyyata iti na prayogānavasthāpattir ity abhiprāyaḥ

tad evaṃ svanikāyaprasiddhādhyāsadarśanāśrayeṇa sārvatrikī jātipadārthavyavasthā darśitā | svarūpabhūtā hi jātiḥ sarveṣāṃ śabdānām antaraṅgatvād asādhāraṇatvād aheyatvāc ca prathamapratipādyā idānīm adhyāsānāśrayeṇāpi prauḍhivāditayā jātipadārthavyāptim upapādayitum āha |

arthajātyabhidhāne pi sarvajātyabhidhāyinaḥ | vyāpāralakṣaṇā yasmāt_ padārthās samavasthitāḥ ||

anyathā vātra sambandhaḥ astu śabdajāter arthajātīnāṃ jātikāryaṃ sambandhavyutpattis tu na ca gate yatra hi saṃketas tatra śabdajātir adhyasya eva tv anekatvād arthajātīnāṃ sāmānyāntaram antareṇa na saṃbhavati | ity āha | arthajātyabhidhāne pītyādi yadā viśuddhā evārthajātayaś śabdauair abhidhīyanta ity āśrīyate | tadāpi sarve jātyabhidhāyinaḥ | jātyādiśabdā'pi tadā jātivācina eva | nanu nissāmānyāni sāmānyānīti siddhāntāt_ kathaṃ jātyādiśabdā api jātyādhārāṃ jātim abhidadhyur ity āha | vyāpāralakṣaṇā iti | vyāpāraḥ kāryam_ prayojanan tad eva lakṣyate | teneti lakṣaṇaṃ hetur yeṣāṃ padapratyāyyānām arthānān te tathā niyamitasvarūpāḥ | ayam āśayaḥ | vaiśeṣikādīnāṃ bhavantu nissāmānyāni tāni hi vyaktiṣv anvayipratyayāvaseyāni paropādhirūpāṇi svatantravyaktivadidantāvabhāsitvābhāvāt_ sāmānyāntareṇa nopādhīyante | vaiyākaraṇān tu śabdārtho rtha ity abhyupayatām anvayirūpāvacchedena śābdasya pratyayasyotpatteḥ jātiṣv api jātir aviruddhā'bhyupagamā | etad eva hi vyaktiṣv api jātyabhyupagame nimittam ity atrāpi tathābhyupagame kaḥ pradveṣaḥ pratyakṣā api ca padārthāḥ svakāryaṃ vijñānādikaṃ kurvantas santīti vyavahriyante | kim punaś śabdavācyāḥ padārtha iti sāmānyavacanā dravyādayo 'pi śabdavācyatvenaiva lakṣyante | śabdapramāṇakānāṃ hi yacchabda āha | tat_ paramārtharūpam | tathā cānvayirūpeṇa guṇo 'py abhidhīyamāno jātir eva yathopamāsamāse śyāmādiḥ tathā copamānāni sāmānyavacanair ity ucyate |

evaṃ kriyāpy abhedenābhidhīyamānā jātiḥ tathedan tad iti svātantryeṇa viśeṣyatayābhidhīyamānā jātiguṇakriyā api dravyam iti yathāvasaram agre nirṇeṣyata laukikavyavahārānuguṇyena śāstre smin_ vyutpādyate | śāstrāntaraprasiddhā hi vyavasthā lokaviruddhā | loke hi gavi śṛṅgaṃ vṛkṣe śākheti vyavahāraḥ tathaiva hi vyākaraṇe py ādhārasaptamī | śāstrāntare tv aṣvavayaveṣv avayavīti śṛṅge gauś śākhāyāṃ vṛkṣa iti syāt_ itthañ ca śabdābhidheyasyaivārthatvāt_ sarve jātyabhidhāyino yasmāc chabdavyāpāreṇa padārthā lakṣyante | yady api bahir vastuni na santi | tathāpi śabdais tathā pratyāyyante | ato bhidhānavyāpāravaśād anvayirūpeṇa pratyāyanā vyāptir jātau padārthe siddhe

svālakṣaṇyena hi vastūnāṃ bhedaśabdaiḥ spṛṣṭun na śakyate | anvayirūpāveśena sambandhavyutpattau śabdasya vācakatvāt | tathā ca jātīnām itaretarabhedo vastu san nābhidhīyate | api tv abhedakalpena tā abhidhīyante | abhedaś ca sāmānyam iti siddham | ekaśabdatvaṃ jātaya iti |

tathā yo viśeṣas saṃjñāśabdānāṃ vācyapratiniyatas so 'pi jātivat_ prasiddhajātyā tulyam apekṣyate śabdaiḥ | tatrāpi hi bālyakaumārādyavasthābhedaś śabdena na spṛśyate api tv avasthātrāpam evānugatam | tad dhi pratyabhijñāpratyayanimittaṃ tatrāvaśyābhyupagantavyam | ato yasmāj jātivat_ sarvam apekṣyate | śabdaiḥ | tasmāt_ jātiṃ vāiśeṣaṃ vā pratipādayantas sarve jātyabhidhāyina iti jātyabhidhānavyāptin nigamaya iti | itthañ ca saṃjñāśabdānām api jātiśabdatvam ity ekaiva śabdānāṃ pravṛttiḥ

sarvaśabdaviṣaya-tvam evābhivyanakti ||pracakṣate

tāṃ prāti pracakṣate | sā nityā sā mahān ātmā tām āhuḥ tatalādayaḥ ||

sarvabhāveṣu sadrūpaṃ sāmānyam anugataṃ abhāvasyāpi budhyākāreṇa ni-paṇāt_ mahāsattayānayā'viyogāt_ prātipadikamātravācyā sattā tad uktam | prātipadikārthas satteti dhātubhir api sādhanādhī-nalabdhajanmasu kriyāvyaktiṣu samavetā yathopādhyupagṛhītanānātvā sattaivābhidhīyate | sā cobhayavyadhāhitatvān nityā san_pratyayasya sarvadānuvṛtteḥ |

ete sattāmātrasyātmano mahataḥ ṣaḍ viśeṣapariṇāmāḥ yat tat paraṃ viśeṣebhyo liṅgamātram mahattatatvam | tasminn ete sattāmātre mahaty ātmany avasthāya vivṛddikāṣṭhām anubhavanti | pratisaṃsṛjyamānā-ś ca tasminn eva sattāmātre mahaty ātmany avasthāya [vivṛddikāṣṭhām anibhavanti] yat tan nissattāsaktaṃ[māntitya] nissadasad avyaktam aliṅgaṃ tasmin_ pra-tīyantīty evaṃ sāṃkhye buddhitatvam mahacchabdavācyam ādyaṃ jagat_kāraṇan nirdiṣṭam ity ato nantarasya vikāraragrāmasya kāraṇarūpānugamāt_ sattārūpatvam a-viruddham iti sattārūpaṃ sarvaṃ jagadākhyātaṃ bhavati iti sattādvaitavādaḥ sāṃkhyanayenāpy upabṛṃhitaḥ evañ ca sarvaśabdavācyā sattā śabdapravṛtinimittabhūteti yathāyathaṃ bhinnopādhir bhāvapratyayābhidheyā saiva | nanv evaṃ gotvam iti prakṛtipratyayayor ekārthatāprasaṅgaḥ naitad upādhibhedena sa-ttāyā bhedāt_ prātipadikena gavāśrayās tasyā abhidhānam | pratyayena tu niṣkṛṣṭāśrayasya sāmānyasyābhidhety adoṣaḥ | prakṛtyarthanimittaś ca bhāva-pratyaye bheda iti na sāṅkaryaprasaṅgaḥ |
