tathā hi siddhārthābhidhāyināmapadam i-ti tadarthagamagādayaḥ pradhānās teṣā-m ākhyāte 'ntarbhāvāaḥ | na hi bhinnaṃtam evākhyā-tam kriyāpradhānasya sarva sākṣād arthaṃ vadataḥ apa vācakābhyāṃ nāmākhyātābhyāṃ pravibhakte siddhasādhyārthaviṣayaviśeṣadyotakatvā-n nipātānāṃ sādhyekaniyatatvād vopasargāṇāṃ parasparato bhedaḥ karmapravacanīyās tu kri-yāviśeṣopajanitasambandhāvacchedaheta-va iti sambandhaviśeṣa prakāśanānupasargeṣv e-vāntarbhavantīti caturtheva kaiścit padaṃ bhi-nnaṃ

sākṣāt_ kriyāviśeṣaprakāśanābhāvā-t tad api pañcamaṃ padam iti kaiścit_ tathā hi proktavantaḥ karmapravacanīya iti atikrā-ntakriyākhyānalakṣaṇasya vyāpāra sya ty upasargebhyo bhedaḥ kriyāgataviśeṣa-dyotanapūrvaṃ hi sambandhāvacchedanam atra vartamānam | tathā hi sarvaḥ sambandhaḥ kriyā-kṛtaḥ upakāraprabhāvitatvāt tasya kriyām a-ntareṇopakārābhāvāt | tatra kvacit_ kriyā-śabdate yaḥ tad yathā mātuḥ smarati mātuḥ smṛtam sarpiṣe jānīte ityā-dau kriyā hi svābhāvād eva kriyāntaravyava-dhānam antareṇa dravyaiḥ saṃyujyate | anye tu yasmān mātṛviṣaye pravartate 'vatiṣṭha saṃbandha iti varṇayanti |

anyatreti kriyāpade dvayī gatiḥ | kvacit saṃbandhimahimneva niyama-kriyākṣepasiddheḥ | pratiniyatakriyākāraka-bhūbhāvapūrvakatvaṃ śeṣasambandhasya vinaiva ka-rmapravapatyavat_ sambandhājanikriyā-nimittaḥ avayavāvayavisaṃbandhaś ca sthiti-kriyānimitta ityādi | kvacit tu sambandhā-nāṃ pratiniyatakriyāpūrvakatvāvadhāraṇenāsti sāmarthyam· tad yathā vagamyate | kriyā-viśeṣas tu nāvadhāryate | tannimittabhūtaḥ | tathā ca bhāṣyam· yadetatsvaṃ nāma caturbhiḥ prākārair bha-vati bharaṇād apaharaṇāt_ krayaṇād yacchrayeti dānādīnāṃ tv anyatamāvinābhāvāt yakarmapravacanīyo nipatannaviśiṣṭakriyā tu tṛtvaṃ sambandhasya viśeṣam avagamayati || tad uktam― janayitvā kriyā kācit_ sambandhaṃ vinivartate | śrūyamāṇakriyāśabde sambandho jāyate kvacit || yad vopajā sya niyatakri hi śākalyasya saṃhitā-m anu prāvarṣam iti yo 'yaṃ saṃhitaḥ pravarṣaṇa-yor hetuhetumadbhāvalakṣaṇaḥ sambandhaḥ saniyatakriyājanita ity anunā ā

ptasamuccitakriyāṣyād anom atra sāmarthyam adhyavasīvasīyate || tad uktam― kriyāyā dyotako nāyaṃ saṃbandhasya ca vācakaḥ | nāpi kriyāpadākṣepī sambandhasya ca bhedataḥ || iti || bhedato viśeṣadyotakata ity artham iti na kathyate | amanā-s tu paścāt_bhāvamātravṛ cyate ihāpi p. 11,13 - 11,14nā yuktā ya punar anya-thāorthasya sāmarthyā lpayituṃ pāryata iti padāntarāṇām arthāntara-niveśārthaḥ bandhaviśeṣasya tato 'navagata-sya karmapravacanīyaviṣayatā siddhā | nanu yad atrādhikyaṃ vākyārthas sa iti kriyāvi-śeṣajanitatvalakṣaṇaḥ sambandhasyāvaccheda-m iti na kathyate amanās tu śulkām ānaya jī paścāt_bhāvamātravṛ

lotpalam iti vākyārthatvenocyamānaṃ ca ata-evo śrayiṇo vākyākyārthatvenocyamānaṃ padārthapṛṣṭha-pātitvenaivānusaraṇīyam | na tu padārthā-llaṃghanena tadvākyopāttasya hi sādhyasya viśeṣyasya vopāttair eva sādhanair viśeṣaṇai-ś ca saṃsargas tatrādhikyam· tad yathā hi śuklām ā-naya nīlotpalam iti ca ata evocya śrayiṇo vākyā vatiṣṭhata- iti itthaṃ cānupāttasyaiva padārthasyaiva vākyāt_ pratītir nāstīti na sambandhāvacchedo 'trā-padārtho vākyārthaḥ śakyate kalpayitum iti karmavacanīyaviṣaya evāyam sa vakṣyati | nimi-ttaniyamaḥ śabdāt_ sambandhasya na gṛhyate | karmapravacanīyais__ śaṣo 'varudhyata iti ca darśanadvayaṃ svarūpeṇaiva sambandhāntarād vilakṣaṇaḥ karmapravacanīye-na sambandho 'vaccchidyate | kriyāviśeṣajanitatvenaiveti tatra svarūpeṇāvacchede viśiṣṭakri-yājanitatvapratītiḥ sambandhiviśeṣaparyālo-canālabhyā | tathā hy adhibrahmadatte pañcālā iti svasvāmibhāvo 'yaṃ sambandha ity adhinā vedya-te | brahmadattaś ca svāmīśvarapañcālāś ca jana-padasvam iti tayoḥ sambandhinoḥ paripālana-karo dānādikriyāprabhāvita evāyaṃ sambandho nyāyya ity avagamyate | evam abhimanyur arjunataḥ pratītinā sādṛśyalakṣaṇo 'yaṃ sambandha iti dyotyate | ta punas sambandhisvarūpaparyālocanād atra saṃpraharaṇādikriyākṛta ity avagamya-te | itthaṃ ca śākalyasya saṃhitām anu prā-varṣad ity atrāpi hetuphalabhāvo nāmāyaṃ samba-ndha ity etāvaty evāyam anuviśrāmyati | pāṭhavi-śeṣarūpatvāt tu saṃhitāyā niśamanakriyāvaga-tiḥ śabdaśravaṇena hi devo varṣatīti samba-ndhimahimno viśiṣṭakriyāprabhāvitvam avasīya-te | kvacid iyān aror eva vyāpāra ity āhuḥ―

svarūpāvacchede 'pi ca kriyāyāḥ kāryabhūta-sambandhopekṣayā'tītatvāt_ karma prokta ity arthaḥ samanvety eva vastutaḥ kriyāphalasyaiva samba-ndhasya prakāśanāt_ yathā tu tatrabhavadbhartṛhare-s tatrābhiprāyo lakṣākṣyate | tathā nimittavi-śeṣāvaccheda eva karmapravacanīyakṛta iti rāddhāntaḥ | adhibrahmadatte pañcālā iti pari-pālanaākriyā hi tatvaṃ svasvāmibhāvasyādhi-nā vyajyate | abhimanyur aārjunataḥ pratīty a-mitraparājayadikṛto nukāryānukaraṇabhā-vaḥ pratinā pṛtanyata ityādi sarvatra yojyam | suyām atir ati-kramaṇe cetādinā karmapravacanīyasaṃjñādhikā-rikī svārthanirapekṣaivopasargasaṃjñābādhanāya pravartate | yathoktaṃ karmapravacanīyatvaṃ kriyāyo-ge vidhīyate | teṣāṃ vinivṛttyarthaṃ svatyādīnāṃ vidharmaṇām iti ārthena tu rūpeṇa vibhāge pra-stute kriyā parṇasvatyā-di ptiḥ tad evaṃ vākyā-d apoddhriyamāṇasya padasyāpoddhārārthavi-śeṣāśrayeṇa yathāsaṃbhavam abhedo niraṃśakavākya-vyutpattyupāyabhūtaḥ pradarśitaḥ | ata eva svādipadaṃ vākyaipadaṃ vākyavyutpattyanaṅgatvā-c chastre | saṃketitam | subantapadavyutpattyupā-yabhūtan ne prakṛtapratyaya-vad iti dṛṣṭāntapakṣanikṣiptam iti na vyāptiḥ | padāt kilāsāv apoddhāro na vākyāt_

tad evam darśanadvayam upapādi idānīṃ jāto śabdenābhidhīyamānāyāṃ tathād dravyāntarābhāvān nirnimittā śabdasya pravṛttir āyātety āśaṅ_kyopapādayitum āha―

6svajātiprathamaṃ śabdaiḥ sarvair evābhidhīyate | tato 'rthajātirūpeṣu tadadhyāropakalpanā ||6

svānusādhāraṇījātau śabdenābhidhīyamānāyāṃ tatra jātyantarābhāvān nirnimittā śabdasya pravṛttir āyātety āśaṅkhyeti ātmīyagośabdatvādi na tu sakalaśabdasādhāraṇī śabdatvādiḥ || evaṃ cāsādhāraṇatvena viśeṣaṇāt tayā sambandhāvyabhicāraḥ śabdasyārthajātyā sa-mbandhavyabhicāre 'pīti svajātir eva mukhyam a-bhidheyam ity uktaṃ bhavati | tathā ca vākyakāra(ḥ) na vā śabdapūrvako hy arthe saṃpratyaya iti | ata e-vāvyabhicāriṇyāḥ sārūpajātorthajātyabhine syārthajātyā sambandhavyabhicāre 'pīti svajātir evane śabdasya nā-ntarīyakam abhidhānam iti prathamam ity āha― yadabhedena yatpratipattis tad avaśyaṃ tat patatra pratipattavyam ity etāvatā tatra prāthamyaṃ na tu kra-meṇābhidhānāt_ yad vā sambandhavyutpattikā-lāpekṣaṃ prāthamyam | tathā sambandhavyutpa-ttikāle 'tyarthajātyā nāsti sambandhaḥ | ta-tvavācakatvena tatra viniyogo 'narthata syād a-rthasya pratipannatvād iti so rthas tāpat tena śa-bdena na pratipannaḥ | yadi ca svajātyabhidhā-naṃ tadānīṃ na syāt tadā'narthakatvād vibhakti-yogo na syād iti prāk_ saṃjñinābhisamba-ndhāt saṃjñā pthāādārthikety uktam | rūpaṃ hi svarūpaṃ jasvā jātir vā darśanabhedena kathya-te sarvair iti | svarūpaparair aparaiś ca tasyā eva svarūpatayā vyavahārāt | tathā cāvyutpannair a-pi śabdair avinābhāvāc chabdasvarūpatvenāva-sthitā jātiḥ pratipādyate | arthasya jhaṭity eva śabdasvarūpābhedenāvabodhe 'pi yathāpra-tipāditakramāśrayeṇa tataḥ svajātipratyāya-nād anantaram arthajātīnāṃ gotvādīnām ā-tmasu tasyāḥ śabdajāteḥ samāropasya kalpa-nā na paramārthaḥ śabdavivartatvenārthasya śa-bdāt tatvato bhedābhāvāt_

yad vā sambandhavyu-tpattikāle gaur ayam artha ity ajātyā śabda-jāter atyantabhedāt sāmānādhikaraṇyānyathā-nupapatyā abhedādhyāropaḥ kalpyate | yathā go bāhīka iti | anyathā saṃketasyaiva kartum a-śakyatvāt_ yathā cāyam anādir apauruṣeyo vācyavācakabhāvas tathādhyāropo ddhi | anya-thā vācyavācakabhāva eva na ta yathā bauddhasya dṛśyavikalpyārthaikīkāro bhedā-nadhyavasāyalakṣaṇo na tu yathā gaur bāhī-ka ity atra puruṣecchayādhyāropaḥ vyavahā-re śabdārthayoḥ sadaivābhedāvasāyāt | katha-m iyaṃ prativarṇam anabhivyaktā sādhāraṇī jāti-r asamavāyayair varṇair abhivya dijātir iti brūmaḥ | tathā hi pratyekaṃ karmakṣaṇānām upavyañjakatve 'pi yaḥ prathama- utkṣepaṇatvakṣaṇaḥ paramāṇumātradeśākramaṇamā-trarūpatvāt_ bhramaṇakṣaṇāt_ sārūpyavaśād anavadhāryamāṇabheda eko samartho niyatajātyabhi-vyañjana iti kṣaṇāntaram ape krama evotkṣipāmī-ty evaṃ prayatnajanitatvāt_ evaṃ gośabdam uccāra-yāmīty ayaṃ prayatno yady api jānagaganaśabda-janakā prayatnād anya eva hetubhedāc ca gakā-rayor api bheda eva | tathāpi sādṛśyā viśa-datarasāmānyaviśeṣābhivyaktahetuḥ | yadā tv a-vayava bhavati | viśeṣopayuktā vyavahārān nayati prabheda na sakṛt padyamāno tathā cacetasi tnatatvat sphoṭakatvam | prathamākṣareṇa hi jāter ābhāsamā-traṃ janyate | taduttarottaravarṇalopena tu sphuṭa-tarasphuṭatamaparicchedādhānaṃ saṃskāraviśeṣo-tpādanadvāreṇābhivyaktiviśeṣasya ratnatatvā-dau dṛṣṭe tasmāc chabdād arthaṃ pratipadyāmaha iti varṇānavyavahārād varṇānām arthā _ānupapatteḥ | prakriyābhaṅga prathamakāṇḍa- eva vihitatvān niravayavaṃ pratyāyakaṃ śabda-tatvaṃ jātivyaktibhedena bhinnaṃ sphoṭasva-bhāvam aṅgīkāryam | gaur ayam artha iti ca khacatā-bhedena vācyapratītes tadadhyāsakhacitavapur vya-vavahāryo 'rthaṃ(rthaḥ) tatra svarūpasya vācyatā pratha-makāṇḍa eva nirṇītā | iha tu saṃbandhasa-muddeśe 'nnupi nirṇeṣyate

tatraitat syāt | śabda-samavāyi sāmānyaṃ vyadhikaravaṇatvāt | katha-m arthajātir abhedena vyapadiśed ity āśaṅkyam | nidarśanenaiva tad vyutpādayati |

yathā rakte gu-ṇe tatvaṃ kaṣāye vyapadiśyate | saṃyogitasanni-karṣāya vastrādiṣv api gṛhyate | tathā śabdārtha-sambandhāc chabde jātir avasthitā vyapadeśe '-rthajātīnākāryāya kalpate |

śabdācchuritatvaitve 'pi cārthasya na svarūpavyapagamaḥ | yathā hy ālokācchurito '-pi ghaṭo na svarūṇepeṇa tirobhavati | evaṃ śabdasvarūpopātto 'rthaḥ svarūpāropeṇa śa-bdālokayor arthaprakāśatatvasyaivaṃvidhasya dṛṣṭe yathā ca gaur vāhīka ity atra na gotratvamā-traṃ pratīyate | api tv adhyāropitagorūpo bā-hīkaḥ | evam ihāpi· na tu sphaṭikamaṇāv i-vārthe śabdajāteḥ saṃveśo vivakṣitaḥ | tasyai-va bāhīkavat_ pratyāyyatvāt | svābhāvikaś cā-yam arthapratyāyane śabdānām abhedasambandho hy upāya iti pratipādyo 'pi tathaiva pratipadyate | na hi puruṣādhīnam etat | anādau saṃsāre '-nenaiva prakāreṇa sambandhavyutpatteḥ | ko 'tra niyatādhyāropayitā kalpyatām | avyutpa-nnasaṃketasyāpi cābhinnapratyayotpatter arthajā-tir apy astīti na śabdajātir evādhyāropi-tāstv iti vācyam | śābdī ceyam evaṃvidhā pratītir iti cākṣuṣeṇa raktādipratyayena ni-darśanabhūtena vyutpāditā vastusanniveśi-tvābhāve 'pi ca śabdajāter arthanādir ayam adhyā-ropārūḍhaḥ sadaiva vyavahāre śabdārthayor a-bhedāvasāyāt | bhedasy ca gaur vāhī-ka itivat_ pratibhā(nāṃ) mithyājñānam i-daṃ na bhavati | prāk_ ca sambandhasaṃvedana-samavāyād arthajātayor bhedenāvabhānty eva | a-vyutpannasaṃketasya bālakasya puro 'va-sthiteṣu sāsnādimatsu piṇḍeṣu bhinnasaṃ-pratyaya utpadyate | tadā vācakasannidhānābhā-vād abhinnapratyayahetur arthajātir avadhārya-te | athata eva kathaṃ bhedenānirdhāritāyā-m arthajātau śabdajātiḥ samāropyatetyādi na codanīyam |

jātikāryāya kalpata- ity uktam evārtham abhivyanakti |

jatiśabdaika-śeṣe sā jātīnāṃ jātir iṣyate | jātaya ity atra tajjātiś śabdajāṣu

ā-kṛtyabhidhānād vaikaṃ vibhaktau vājapyāyana i-ti jātipakṣe pratyākhyānād ekaśeṣasya tatpha-lam ekaśabpabdaprayogo 'traikaśeṣa ity uktam | sahavivakṣā vaikaśeṣeṇa lakṣyate | jātiśabdaika-śeṣe prasakta iti jātiḥ arthajātīnām abhetyasyamānā jā-tiśabdagatā jātir ekaśabdatvaṃ saṃpādayati | jātikāryaṃ tad yathā gāvo vṛkṣa ityādir abhi-nnasāmānyanibandhanas tadekārthasamavāyāt_ samāśritaviśiṣṭasakhya ekaśabdaprayogaḥ | tathā jātaya imā ite śabdagataṃ ca sāmānyaṃ jātikāryam uparacatīty ucyate | na tv arthajātiṣv eveti kuta iti yadā śabdajā-tayo 'pi pratyāyyā dṛṣṭaśabdaprayoge tasyoccaritasya jātiśa-bdajātiśabdasya pratipādyā iti śabdaprayogabandhanam ity arthaḥ |

yady evaṃ śabdajātigatānām api jātīnām anyā-d vācakā jātis tāsām ā

śabdeṣu bhyāṃ bhinnalakṣaṇā jātis sā śa-bdhabdajātitvam apy atikramya vartate |

prayojya-bhedāt_ bahuṣu śabdajātiśabdeṣv abhinnapratya-yanibandhanaṃ jātis tebhyaḥ svāśrayabhūtebhyo bhinnasvabhāvā sā gośabdatvāyidiśabdajā-tivargāntaḥpātinī | na tu vyapadeśāntarārhā śa-bdajātiśabdasyāpi gośabdatvādivac chabda-syāpitvādijātaya ity anenaiva ekaśabdaprayo-geṇa sāpi pratyāyata iti na prayogāvanavasthā-pattir ity abhiprāyaḥ |

tad evaṃ svanikāya-siddhādhyāsadarśanāśrayeṇa sārvatrikī jā-tipadārthavyavasthā darśitā | svarūpabhūtā hi jātiḥ sarveṣāṃ śabdānām antaraṅgatvād asādhā-raṇatvād aheyatvāc ca prathamaṃ pratipādyā | inī-m adhyāsānāśrayeṇāpi pratyakṣavāditayā jāti-padārthavyākṣiptam upapādayitum āha―

artha-jātyabhidhāne 'pi sarve jātyabhidhāyinaḥ vyā-pāralakṣaṇā yasmāt_ padārthāḥ samavasthitāḥ |

anyathā vā'tra sambandhaḥ | tathā hi astu śabda-jāter arthajātīnāṃ jātikāryaṃ sambandhivyutpa-ttis tu na ghaṭate | yatra hi śabdajātir addhyasya-te sa eva tv anekatvād arthajātīnāṃ sāmānyā-ntaram antareṇa na sambhavatīty āha― yadā viśuddhā evārthajātayaḥ śabdair abhidhīyanta ity āśrīyate | tadāpi sarve jātyabhidhāyinaḥ jātyādiśabdā api tadā jātivācina eva || nanu nissāmānyāni sāmānyā-nīti (si)ddhāntāt sa kathaṃ jātyādiśabdā- api jātyādhārāṃ jātim abhidadhyur ity āha― vyāpāralakṣaṇā iti vyāpāraḥ kāryaṃ prayojanam i-ti tad eva lakṣyate 'neneti lakṣaṇaṃ mahator yeṣāṃ śabdapratyāyyānām ārthānāṃ te tathā hi yasvarū-pāḥ ayam āśayaḥ vaiśeṣikādīnāṃ bhavaṃtu ni-ssāmānyāni sāmānyāni tāni hi vya-ktiṣv anvayapratyayāvadheyāni paropādhirūpāṇi svatantravyaktivadidantāvabhāsitvā-bhāvāt_ sāmānyāntareṇa nopadhīyaṃte | navavyākaraṇānāṃ tu śabdārtho 'rtha ity abhyupagatām anva-yarūpāvacchedena śābdasya pratyayasyotpatteḥ jātiṣv api jātir aviruddhābhyupagamā etad e-va hi vyaktiṣv api jātyabhyupagame nimitta-m itratrāpi tathābhyupagame kaḥ pratyeṣaḥ prakṣā- api ca padārthāḥ svakāryaṃ vijñādikaṃ kurvantaḥ santīti vyavahriyante kiṃ punaḥ śabdavār__cyāḥ pa-dārthā api iti sāmānyavacanāt_ dravyādayo '-pi śabdavācyatvepinaiva lakṣyante | śabdapra-māṇakānāṃ hi yacchabda āha― tat paramārtha-rūpās tathā cānvayirūpeṇa guṇo 'py adhīyamā-no jātir eva yathopamānā samāse śyamā-diḥ tathā copamānāni sāmānyavacanair ity ucyate |

evaṃ kriyāpy abhedena vā'bhidhīya-mānā jātiḥ | tathedaṃ tad iti svātantryeṇa vi-śeṣyatayābhidhīyamānā jātiguṇakriyā api dravyam iti yathāvasaram agre nirṇeṣyata eva tac ca laukikavyavahārānuguṇyena śāstre 'smin_ vyutpādyate | śāstrāntare prasiddhā hi vyavasthā- lokaviruddhā loke hi gavi śṛṅgaṃ vṛkṣe śā-kheti vyavahāraḥ | tathaiva ca vyākaraṇe 'py ādhāra-saptamī | śāstrāntare tv avayaveṣv avayavīti śṛṅge gauḥ śākhāyāṃ vṛkṣa iti syāt_ | itthaṃ ca śabdābhidheyasyehārthatvāt | sarve jātyabhi-dhāyino yasmāc chabdavyāpāreṇa padārthā la-kṣyante | yady api bahir vapi śā-strais tathā pratyāyyante | ato bhidhāvyāpārava-śād anvayirūpeṇa pratyāyyamānā vyāptir jātau padārthe siddhety eṣo 'py arthaḥ |

abhidhāvyāpā-ralakṣaṇatvam eva vyaktayati

jātena padārthe jā-tir vā 'pi viśeṣo vā jātivat | śabdair apekṣya-te | yasmād antas te jātivācinaḥ

jātau padārtha- iti jātivācīty abhyupagantavyaṃ bhavatu | mā bhūj jāti-śabdais tu jātivyatiriktayā jātyaikasvabhāve vā'pekṣyate pratyāyyatvenāṅgīkriyate | svālakṣya-kṣaṇyena hi vastūnāṃ bhedaḥ śabdaiḥ spraṣṭuṃ na śakya-te | anvayirūpāveśena sambandhavyutpattau śabdasya vācakatvāt | tathā ca jātīnām ita-retarabhedo vastu san nādhibhidhīyate | api- tv abhedakatvena tā abhidhīyante | abhedaś ca- sāmānyam iti siddham ekaśabdatvaṃ jātaya- iti

tathā yo 'pi viśeṣaḥ saṃjñāśabdānāṃ vā-cyaḥ pratiniyataḥ so 'pi jātiprasiddhajātyā tulyam apekṣyate | śabdaiḥ | tatrāpi bālyakaumārādyavasthābhedaḥ na spṛśyate | api tv avasthātṛrūpam evānugataṃ tad dhi pratyabhijñāpratyayanimittaṃ tatrāvaśyābhyupagantavyam | ato yasmājjā-yasmāj jātivat sarvam apekṣyate śabdaiḥ tasmāj jā-tiviśeṣaṃ vā pratipādayantaḥ sarve jātyabhi-dhāyina vyāptiṃ nigamayati | itthaṃ ca saṃjñā-śabdānām api jātivādimate jātiśabdatva-m ity ekaiva śabdānāṃ pravṛttiḥ |

evaṃ darśanā-ntare 'pi śabdavyāpārāśrayeṇa eva vyāpti-siddhir ity āha―

dravyadharmā padārthe tu dravye sarvo 'rtha ucyate | dravyadharmāśrayādravyadha-rmadravyam ataḥ sarvo 'rtha iṣyate |

na kevalaṃ ma-yaiva jātipadārthāvādinaitad aṅgīkṛtaṃ sarvo 'rtho jātir iti yāvad dravye 'pi padārthe dravyapadārthapakṣe 'pi dravyadharmā sarvo 'rtha ucya-te kutaḥ dravyadharmāṇām āśrayaṇāt_ dravyam ataḥ sarvo 'rtha iṣyate | vyaā(vyā)ptir ataḥ siddhā bhava-tīty arthaḥ | dravyavādinā'py etad abhyupetavyam· vya(vyā)ptisiddhaye śabdena yo 'rtha ucyate | sarvo 'sau dravyadharmayukta evety abhiprāyaḥ | yathā ca dravyavādinaḥ kecid eva śabdā mukhya-dravyābhidhāyinaḥ tadanye tūpacaritadravyā-kārābhidhāyinaḥ tathā mamāpi jātivādi-no mukhyāṃ jātim abhidadhati | kecit_ upa-caritām anya iti matadvaye 'pi sāmyam | tatra dravyadharmā idaṃ tad iti pratyavamarśayo-gyatvam | pariniṣpatāsvātantryaṃ liṅgasaṃ-khyāyogaś cety evam ādayaḥ teṣāṃ śuklādi-guṇeṣv apy adhyāropāt te 'pi dravyasyaiva dha-rmo yeṣām iti dravyadharmāṇaḥ | tathā hi śu-klo nīlaṃ strīpuṃnapuṃsakādini satvaguṇā-s tathaikatvādayaś cetyādibhiḥ śabdaiḥ pratyāyya-mānā guṇādayo dravyadharmāṇaḥ svātantryādi-rūpeṇāvabhāsante | iti sarvo 'rtho dravyarūpeṇā-bhidhīyate |

evaṃ śabdavyāpārāśrayeṇa vyā-ptir upapāditā· adhunā vaiśeṣikadṛṣṭyā'-py arthagatasamānadharmāśrayeṇa jātipadārthavyā-ptim āha―

anuanupravṛttaidharmo vā jātiḥ syāt sarvajātiṣu | pravṛttidharmasāmānyaṃ viśeṣe jātir iṣyate ||

jātīnām etaj jātitvaṃ yeiyaṃyaṃ svā-śrayānu(tpa)ttiḥ sarvajātīnāṃ sādhāraṇo dha-rmaḥ sā ca tābhyo nanyāpi sādṛśyād abhede-na parāmṛṣṭā satī sarvā sañjātiḥ sarvaiva hi jātiḥ svavyaktir anuvartate | upalakṣaṇaṃ caiṣa dha-rmaḥ tena svānurūpapratyayajanakatvaṃ yat_ balāt_ dravyaṃ tadrūpam ābhāti | svānurūpābhitvaṃ rūpābhidhāna(ṃ) bhavati | pratyāśrayaṃ ca sarvātmanā parisamāptiḥ sādhāra-ṇo jātidharmaḥ yadi bhāgaśo jātir varteta | tadā bhāgaśa eva gotvādipratyayaḥ syāt | saṃpūrṇaś ca viṣāṇādyavayavadarśane 'pi gotvā-kāraḥ pratyayaḥ prasūyate prasūyate praśrayapariṇasādhāraṇadharmā vācyāḥ | ya-thā ca gotvādijātiḥ sarvā vyaktīr vyāpnoti | ta-thaivaite dharmāḥ sarvajātīḥ vyāpnuvantīti jā-tyā tulyarūpatvāj jātikāryāya kalpante | evaṃ sarva eva viśeṣā vyāvartante | anyathā-nugamāt_ sāmānyaṃ

sambandhasya sādhāraṇatvāt_ saiva jātir astu tad evaṃ sāsnādimatvena sāsnā-dimātyādipratyayo janyate | na tu gau-r gaur iti anurūpaṃ hi kāryaṃ kāraṇa jātir jātir iti pra-tyayo yuktavyāvṛttā ca viśeṣāviśeṣa iti naitad evam· gatyantarābhāvād atra sadṛśā e-va dharmajātiḥ kalpyate | mukhye jātimatve bādhakopapatteḥ | tathā hi sāmānye ca para-sāmānyasamavāyena(nā)vasthādibādhakaṃ ma-nyayāpanodāya viśe-ṣāntarakalpane teāom api sāmānyasamavā-ye sandehaviṣayatvād viśeṣāntarābhyupaga-me 'navasthāprasaṅgaḥ | atha kaściran nissā-mānyo 'sti viśeṣaḥ | tadā tadaviśeṣāt sa-rve 'pi tathā syur iti vānyatra vistareṇe gopiṇḍeṣu yu sāmānyābhyupagame- na kiṃci parikalpyam | tad evaṃ yatra jātyabhyupagame pra-māṇabādhā'sti | tatra sadṛśarūpā jātiḥ | tathā cābhāveṣv api sāmānyābhyupagame bhāva-tvāpatter abhavanātmakadharmasāmānyād anvayi-pratyayaviṣayateti saiva tatrāpi jāti

sarvaśabdaviṣayatvam evābhivyanakti |

tāṃ prātipadikārthaṃ ca dhātvarthaṃ ca pracakṣate nityā sā mahān ātmākām āhuḥ tatalādayaḥ

sarvabhāveṣu sadrūpaṃ sāmānyam anugatam | abhā-vasyāpi buddhyākāreṇa nirūpaṇāt_ mahāsattayā'-nayāpi yogāt prātipadikamātravācyā sattā tad uktaṃ prātipadikārthaḥ satteti dhātubhir api dhātubhir api sādhanādhīnalabdhajanmasu kriyāvyaktisusamavetā yathopādhyupagṛhītanānātvā sa-ttaivābhidheyam āpadyate siddhasādhyarūpārthadva-yātmanā ca tasyā eva pi(vi)vṛttes tadapararāśyabhāvāt_ saṃśabdaviṣayatvaṃ sattāyāḥ pratyayabhāgenāpy atra yathāyathaṃ saṃkhyākārakādyupādhiviśiṣṭā sattaivā-bhidhīyate | sa codayavyayarahitatvān nityā sa-tpratyayasya sarvadānuvṛtteḥ

ete sattāmātrasyā-tmano mahataḥ ṣaḍ aviśeṣapariṇāmā yat tat paraṃ vi-śeṣebhyo liṅgamātraṃ mahattas tasminn ete sa-ttāmātre mahatvātmany avasthāya vivṛddhikāṣṭhām a-nubhavanti | pratisaṃsṛjyamāhaś ca tasminn eva sattāmātre mahaty ātmany avasthāya yat tan nisattāsattan niḥsadasad avyaktam aliṅgaṃ tasmin_ prati-yantīty evaṃ sāṃkhye buddhitatvaṃ mahacchabdavācya-m ādyaṃ jagat_kāraṇaviśiṣṭam ity ato 'nanta-rasya raḥ grāmasya kāraṇarūpānugamā-t sattārūpatvam aviruddham iti sattārūpaṃ sarvaṃ ja-gadākhyātaṃ bhavatīti sattādvaitavādaḥ sāṃkhya-nayenāpy upabṛṃhitaḥ | evaṃ ca sarvaśabdavācyā sattā śabdapravṛttinimittabhūteti yathā bhinnopādhibhāvapratyayābhivaṃ gotvam iti prar ekārthatāprasa-ṅgaḥ | naitat_ upādhibhedena sattāyā bhedāt_ prātipadikena gavāśrayāyās tasyā abhidhānaṃ pratyayena tu niṣkṛṣṭāśrayasya sāmānyasyābhidhety adoṣaḥ | prakṛtyarthanimittaś ca bhāvapratyayabheda iti na sāṃkarya
