tatrādāv ity eva ākāṃkṣitaṃ sannihitaṃ yogyaṃ caivānuvartate tatra mātṛrūpe varṇapāṭhe ādau ye daśa varṇās te samānasaṃjñā bhavaṃti a ā i ī u ū ṛ ṝ ḷ ḹ prayojanaṃ samānaḥ savarṇa ityādi śivāptiḥ

teṣāṃ dvau dvāv anyonyasya savarṇau

teṣāṃ samānānāṃ madhyād yau dvau dvau varṇau tāv anyonyasya parasparaṃ savarṇasaṃjñau bhavataḥ | akārasya ākāraḥ savarṇaḥ | ākārasya akāraḥ savarṇaḥ | evam ikārasya īkāra ityādi | pūrvam eva prayojanaṃ | samānau varṇau savarṇāv ity anvarthasaṃjñāvijñānād dvayor hrasvayor dvayoś ca dīrghayor anyonyaṃ sāvarṇyaṃ | tena mamātra dṛḍhāsthetyādau dīrghaparalopau bhavataḥ | nanu eka evāsau varṇo dvir uccāryate naitau dvau savarṇau sati hi bhede dvitvaṃ samānavarṇatvaṃ ca bhavati | yad āhuḥ yatra kiṃcit sāmānyaṃ kaścic ca viśeṣaḥ sa viṣayaḥ sadṛśyatāyā iti tat katham atra dvayoḥ savarṇatvam ucyate | yatra ekāra ākāra udāttaḥ svarito vā aparas tv anudāttas tatra svarabhedāt sati dvaidhe tāvad eṣa na doṣaḥ | evam ikārādiṣu jñeyaṃ | tathā coktaṃ hrasvadīrghaplutatvāc ca traisvaryopanayena ca | ānunāsikabhedāc cāpy akāro ṣṭādaśātmakaḥ || iti yatra tv abhedas tatrāpi kvacid bhedāropeṇa dvitvaṃ sadṛśatvaṃ ca dṛśyate | yathā yuddhe rjuno rjuna iti prathitaprabhāvo bhīmo pi bhīma iva vairiṣu bhīmakarmā nyagrodhavartinam athādhipatiṃ kurūṇāṃ sotprāśanārtham adhijagmatur ādareṇa ityādau tadvad ihāpi bhaviṣyati | athavoccārakālādikṛtaḥ sūkṣmo viśeṣo vaśyaṃbhāvī tam āśritya dvayoḥ savarṇatvaṃ bhavati | ata eva vyaṃjanānāṃ samānasthānānāṃ śvāsanādaghoṣādibhede sāvarṇyaṃ | tena vaktā bhaktetyādāv asavarṇe dhuṭi cavargasya kir ucyamānaḥ pṛcchati ujjhatītyādau savarṇe nāsti evam aṃtasthānām apy ānunāsikyabhinnānāṃ savarṇatvaṃ | tenānusvārasyāṃtasthāyām aṃtaratamaḥ sānunāsika eva parasavarṇo vakṣyate | saṃyyaṃtā saṃvatsaraḥ taṃllukaṃ | ṛdupadāc cāklyapi cṛter iti klyapi pratidhedha ṛkāraḷkārayor anyonyaṃ sāvarṇyaṃ jñāpayati | sati hi tasmiṃ paras tatkālasya savarṇasya iti mātrikeṇa ṛkāreṇa mātṛke ḷkāre gṛhīte ṛdūpadhāt klyapvidhīyamāna ḷdupadhād api syād iti kḷpi pratiṣedho rthavān bhavati cikḷpsati kṛpū sāmarthye ūkāraḥ suratisūtisūyatidhūñḷ idanubaṃdhebhya itīḍ vikalpārthaḥ kṛp kalpitum icchatidhātor vā karmaṇa iti san | nakāraḥ san pavarṇasyety arthaḥ | kṛpe ro la iti ṛkāre raśruter laśrutiḥ kḷpsa iti sanaṃtasya caṇ parokṣeti dvirvacanaṃ | abhyāsasyādivyaṃjanam iti palopaḥ | svaraḥ savarṇasya grāhaka iti ṛkāreṇa gṛhītasya ḷkārasya | akāra ṛvarṇasyety etasya sany avarṇasyetītvaṃ | kavargasya cavarga iti kasya caḥ | cikḷpsaśabdāt te dhātava iti dhātusaṃjñāyāṃ satyāṃ vartamānāti | anvi asaṃdhyakṣara iti lopaḥ ||

pūrvo hrasvaḥ

dvau dvāv ity arthavaśāt ṣaṣṭhyaṃtaṃ saṃbadhyate dvayor dvayoḥ savarṇayor yo yaḥ pūrvaḥ sa hrasvasaṃjño bhavati | a i u ṛ ḷ | prayojanaṃ hrasvo ṃbārthānām ityādi | he aṃba | saṃjñārthavaśāt kvacil laghusaṃjñayāpi vyavahāraḥ | nāminaś copadhāyā laghor iti veditā

paro dīrghaḥ svaraḥ

hrasva ityarthavaśāt paṃcamyaṃtam anuvartate hrasvād anyaḥ svaro dīrghasaṃjño bhavati | ā ī ū ṝ ḹ | prayojanaṃ e ai o au | prayojanaṃ dīrgham āmisanāv ityādi | vṛkṣāṇāṃ agniīnāṃ vāyūnāṃ nṝṇāṃ saṃdhyakṣarāṇāṃ dīrghatve prayojanaṃ ro re lopaṃ svaraś ca pūrvo dīrghaḥ | rave raśmiḥ | svairakṣā go rajjuḥ dyau ramyā | atra nāmiparo ram iti rephaḥ | tasya lope kṛte parjanyaval lakṣanapravṛttyā | ekārādīnām ekārādaya eva dīrghā bhavaṃti | asati hi saṃdhyakṣarāṇāṃ dīrghatve | atiri | atinu ityādau hrasvavat sthānasāvarṇyād ekāraikārayor īkāraḥ | okāraukārayoḥ ūkāraś ca dīrghau syātāṃ | tālvoṣṭhavat kaṃṭho pi saṃdhyakṣarāṇāṃ sthānam iti tatsājātyād ākāro 'pi syād iti na vācyaṃ tat

odaṃtā okārās tathā a i u ā nipātāḥ svare prakṛtyā bhavaṃti saṃdhikṛtāṃ vikṛtiṃ nāpadyaṃte no etat aho ādyaḥ haṃho adhama a apehi i ihāḥsva u uttiṣṭha ā evaṃ nu manyase ā evaṃ nu kila tat niranubaṃdhakagrahaṇena sānubaṃdhakasya grahaṇam ity āṅ praty ā na bhavati īṣad amlaṃ āmlaṃ ā ihi ehi ā udakāṃtād odakāṃtād anuvrajet udakāṃte na vinā arbhakebhyo yaśaḥ arbhakebhyaḥ pāṇineḥ arbhakaiḥ saha pūrvāṃ saṃdhyāṃ japaṃs tiṣṭhet sāvitrīm arkadarśanāt paścimāṃ tu samāsīta samyag arkṣavibhāvanād iti arkadarśanena vinā ṛkṣavibhāvanena saha īṣadarthe kriyāyogamaryādābhividhau ca yaḥ evam ātaṃ ṅitaṃ vidyād vākyasmaraṇayor aṅit vinā teneti maryādā sahatyenety abhividhiḥ aśrutaṃ gamyate vākyam ātāyenāṅid eva saḥ ā evaṃ nu manyase ity atra pūrvaṃ naiva samaṃ sthā iti vākyam akāreṇa nipātena gamyate sadṛśādṛṣṭaciṃtādyair anubhūtasya vastunaḥ yat tad ity anusaṃdhānaṃ smaraṇaṃ tad udāhṛtaṃ yena vidhis tadaṃtasyātyaṃtagrahaṇe labdhe py aṃtagrahaṇam okārasyaivāṃtatvārthaṃ tena aṃ i u āṃtā nipā na prakṛtyā cety atra nanūktar veti nipātā iti kiṃ paṭav iha ījatuḥ ūhatuḥ paro pi svarāḥ prakṛtyā yathā syād iti svaragrahaṇaṃ no atra pūrvasya prakṛtibhāvāvijñātād akāralopaḥ syāt
