oṁ namaḥ śivāya niḥkleśapraśamaśāline triguṇagranthibhavabandhavibhedine diśi diśy amṛtasṛdravaṃ sravantyaḥ prathayantyaḥ kṛtināṃ dṛśaḥ prasādaṃ viṣadāḥ prasaranti yasya gāvaḥ sa mahātmā jayati dvijādhirājaḥ || svasutasya śiśor yaśodharasya smaraṇārthaṃ vihito mayā śramo yam upayogam iyād yadi saṅgād aparatrāpi tato bhaved avandhyaḥ || || iha yuktyanugānavadyahṛd i ya kramadṛbdhāḥ kṛtināṃ harantu vācaḥ matijāḍyalavaṃ lavaṅgajātīphalapotā savilasam āsṛjantyaḥ || || oṁ siddho varṇasamāmnāyaḥ

asti siddhakramo varṇānām adīnāṃ samāmnāyaḥ pāṭho mātṛkā asti ca pāṇininā sve tantre pratyāhārārtham aparathā sādhitakramaḥ | tatrāniyame prāpte niyamaḥ kriyate | iha tantre siddhakrama eva || varṇapāṭho vakṣyamānasvarādisajñānām ārāhyo na sādhitakrama iti seyam aniyame niyamaḥ paribhāṣā | akṣarāṇāṃ varṇasaṃjñā py a ta eva varṇaśabdoccāraṇād boddhavyā | a ā i ī u ū ṛ ṝ ḷ ḹ e ai o au svarāḥ ka kha ga gha ṇa ca cha ja jha ña ṭa ṭha ḍa ḍha ṇa tha da dha na pa pha ba bha ma ya ra la va śa ṣa sa ha aṃ aḥ kaḥ paḥ vyaṃjanāni ||

tatra tṛkāṅge varṇapāṭhe ādau ye caturdaśa varṇās te svarasaṃjñā bhavanti a ā i ī u ū ṛ ṝ ḷ ḹ e ai o au prayojanam ro re lopaṃ svaraś ca pūrvo dīrgham ityādi | vīrauti || dātṝjjvāśayatoṣiti vaktavye dātḹjjvāṣayatoṣita iti bālena śaktivaikalyād yad apabhāṣitam_ tad anyo yadānukaroti bālo dātḹjjvāśayitoṣitety āheti tadānukaraṇe nāsti doṣa iti smaraṇātuṃt sādhu bhavati tatsthasya ḹkārasya svarasaṃjñārthaḥ ḹkārasya pāṭhaḥ tenātra svarāt parasya vyañjanasya vyañjane pare dvirbhāvo vaktavyā ḹkārāt parasya jakārasya dvirbhāvaḥ | evaṃ mātḹr ity abravī chuśur ityādau svaratve sati ḹkārasya nāmitvān nāmiparo ram iti ḹt parasya visarjanīyasya rephaḥ | tatraśabda uttaratra saṃjñāsamāveśārthaḥ svarasamānasajñe krameṇa mābhūtā?m iti savarṇādisaṃjñānāṃ saṃjñino ninirdeśyante ||

tatrādāv ity eva tatra mātṛkārūpe varṇapāṭhe ādau ye daśa varṇās te samānasaṃjñā bhavanti a ā i ī u ū ṛ ṝ ḷ ḹ prayojanaṃ samānas savarṇe dīrghībhavati paraś ca lopam_ ityādi | śivāptiḥ ||

|| teṣāṃ dvau dvāv anyonyasya savarṇau ||

teṣāṃ samānānāṃ madhyād yau dvau dvau varṇau tāv anyonyasya parasparaṃ savarṇasajñau bhavataḥ | akārasyākāraḥ savarṇaḥ ākārasyākāraḥ savarṇaḥ | evam ikārādiṣv api jñeyam | pūrvam eva prayojanam | udāraṇaṃ ca śivāptiḥ | samānau varṇau savarṇāv ity anvarthasaṃjñāvijñānād dvayor hrasvayor dvayor dīrghayoś cānyonyaṃ sāvarṇyaṃ jñāpayati | tena mamātra dṛḍhāsthā ityādau dīrghaparalopau bhavataḥ || nanv eka evāsau varṇo dvir uccāryate | naitau dvau savarṇau | sati hi bhede dvitvaṃ samānavarṇatvaṃ savarṇatvaṃ ca bhavati || yad āhuḥ yatra kiṃcit sāmānyaṃ kaścic ca viśeṣaḥ sa viṣayaḥ sadṛśyatāyā iti tat katham atra dvayoḥ savarṇatvam | ucyate | yatraiko kāra udāttaḥ svarito vā aparas tv anudāttaḥ tatra svarabhedāt sati dvaidhe tāvad eṣa na doṣaḥ | yatrāpy eko kāraḥ svānunāsiko dvitīyo niranunāsikas tatrāpi bhebhād eva na doṣaḥ | evam ikārādiṣu jñeyam | tathao coktam hrasvadīrghaplutatvāc ca trai traisvaryopanayena ca | ekamātro bhaveddhrasvo dvimātro dīrgha ucyate trimātras tu pluto jñeyo vyañjanaṃ tv ardhamātrakam ānunāsikyabhedāc cāpy akāro ṣṭādaśātmaka iti | yatra tv abhedas tatrāpi kvacid bhedāropeṇa dvitvaṃ sasadṛśatvaṃ ca bhavati | yathā yuddhe rjuno rjuna iva prathitapratāpo ityādau tadvad ihāpi bhaviṣyati | eko rjunaśabdo śāśyarūpaḥ dvitīyaḥ sabrahmadārini athavā uccārakālādikṛtaḥ sūkṣmo viśeṣo vaśyaṃbhāvī tam āśritya dvayoḥ savarṇatvaṃ bhavati nanu samānasya varṇaḥ savarṇaḥ ity anvarthasaṃjñāvaśāt sādṛśyam asta | vyañjanānāṃ kathaṃ sāvarṇyam ityājñāha ata eveti | ata eva vyañjanānāṃ samānasthānānāṃ śvāsanādasaghoṣādibhede saty api sāvarṇyam | uccārakālādikṛtaḥ sūkṣmāviśeṣasyāvaśyaṃbhāvāt asavarṇe eva aṭi cavargasya kirbhavati tena pṛcchati ujjhatītyādau iśayamās tālavyā ityanena sāvarṇyaścavargasya katva na bhavati |tena vaktā bhaktetyādāv asavarṇe dhvaṭi cavargasya kirucyamānaḥ pṛcchati ujjhatītyā ddhau dau savarṇe nāsti | evam antasthānām apy ānunāsikyabhinnānāṃ savarṇatvam | tenānusvārasyāntasthāyām aṃtaratamaḥ | sānunāsika eva parasavarṇo vakṣyate | saym̐yantā savm̐vatsaraḥ talm̐lokaṃ | ṛdupadhāc cātikḷpi pratidhedha ṛkāraḷkārayor anyonyaṃ sāvarṇyaṃ jñāpayati sati hi tasmiṃs taparas tatkālasya savarṇasya grāhaka iti mātrikeṇa ṛkāreṇa mātrike eva ḷkāre gṛhīte ṛdupadhāt ḷbvidhīyamāna ḷdupadhād api syād iti kḷpi pratiṣedho rthavān bhavati | cikḷpsati kṛpū sāmarthye ūkāraḥ svaratisūtisūyatītī|ḍvikalpārthaḥ kṛp kalpitum icchati bhavati san_ nakāraḥ sanyavarṇasyety arthaḥ kṛpe ro la iti ṛkāre raśruter laśrutiḥ kḷpsa iti sannantasya caṇ parokṣeti dvirvacanam | abhyāsasyādivyañjanam iti paralopyaḥ svaraḥ savarṇasya grāhakaḥ iti ṛkāreṇa gragrahītasya ḷkārasya akāra ṛvarṇasyety akāraḥ tasya sanyavarṇasyetītvam | kavargasya cavarga iti kasya caḥ | cikḷpsaśabdāt te dhātava iti dhātusaṃjñāyāṃ satyāṃ vartamānā ti | anvi asandhyakṣaralopaḥ ||

pūrvo hrasvaḥ ||

dvau dvāv ity arthavaśāt ṣaṣṭyantaṃ sambadhyate dvayoḥ dvayoḥ savarṇayor yo yaḥ pūrvaḥ sa hrasvasaṃjño bhavati | a i u ṛ ḷ | prayojanaṃ hrasvo mbārthānām ityādi | he amba | arthavaśāt kvacilyaghusaṃjñayāpi vyavahāraḥ | nāminaś copadhāyā laghor iti prayojanam veditā ||

paro dīrghaḥ svaraḥ ||

hrasva ityarthavaśāt paṃcamyantam anavarttate hrasvād anyaḥ svaro dīrghasaṃjño bhavati | ā ī ū ṝ ḹ e ai o au | prayojanaṃ dīrgham āmisanāv iti vṛkṣāṇām | agnīnām | vāyūnām | nṝṇām | sandhyakṣarāṇāṃ dīrghatve prayojanaṃ ro re lopaṃ svaraś ca pūrvadīrghaḥ rave raśmiḥ | svai rakṣā go rajjuḥ dyau ramyā | atra nāmiparo ram iti rephaḥ tasya lope kṛte parjanyavalyakṣanapravṛttyā ekārādīnām ekārādaya eva dīrghā bhavanti | asati hi sandhyakṣarāṇāṃ dīrghatve atiri atinu ityādau hrasvavat sthānasāvarṇyād ekāraikārayor īkāraḥ | okāraukārayor ūkāro dīrghau syātām | tālvoṣṭhavat kaṇṭho pi sandhyakṣarāṇāṃ sthānam iti tat
