oṃ namo gaṇapataye || apaśabdas tvakṛta ity evaṃ yad bhavadbhir udghuṣṭaṃ tad eva tāvad vicāryate | katham ayam apaśabdaḥ kiṃ śabdalakṣaṇarahitatvāt āhosvid arthapratipattyasādhanatvād iti kiṃ gataḥ yadi tāvac chabdalakṣaṇarahitatvād ayam apaśabda ity evaṃ vaktum abhipretaṃ tad ayuktaṃ śabdalakṣaṇopapannatvena pratīyamānatvāt tathā hi śrotragrahaṇalakṣaṇaḥ sāmānyavān arthaḥ śabda iti mabdasadbhāvād bhāvaviśeṣajñāḥ tallakṣaṇopapannatvaṃ cāsya sakalajvarasākṣikatvena pratī?yata eva anyathā hi tatsadbhāvasiddhir eva na syāt na hy ayam apaśabdatvenābhimataḥ śabdaḥ śrotrād anyena pratipattaṃ śakyata iti athaivaṃ kadācin nigadyate kila yad vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiḥ prāṇiniprabhṛtibhiḥ sādhuśabdānāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ proktaṃ tadrahitatvenāyam apaśabda iti tad etad apy asādhīyaḥ tathā hi vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiḥ kiṃ śabdānāṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ proktam āhosvid viśeṣalakṣaṇam ubhaye vā tatra tāvat sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ praṇītaṃ śrotragrāhyatvavad apratibhāsanāt tad yathā kaṇabhukpraṇītaṃ sāmānyavataḥ śrotragrāhyatvaṃ sarvaśabdānāṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ pramāṇenopalabhyate naivaṃ sādhuśabdānām apy aśeṣavyaktyanugataṃ kiṃcid ekaṃ sāmānyabhūtaṃ vyākaraṇapraṇetṛbhir ācāryaiḥ praṇītalakṣaṇam upalabdhigocaratām upagacchati tathā hi samālakṣaṇena vākyeṣv asti vākyalakṣaṇaṃ na ca samāseṣu tāthā kriyālakṣaṇaṃ na kārakeṣv asti kārakalakṣaṇaṃ na ca kriyāsv ity evaṃ saṃdhivigrahakṛttaddhitādilakṣaṇānām apy anyonyavargavyāpakatvenāsāmānyātmatā draṣṭavyeti etenobhayalakṣaṇapraṇetatvaṃ pratyuktaṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇā sambhave ubhayalakṣaṇavyavahāro pi durghaṭa eveti atha viśeṣaṇalakṣaṇam eva sādhuśabdānāṃ pāṇinibhṛtibhiḥ praṇītaṃ | tadrahitatvenāyam apaśabdaḥ ity evaṃ kadācitvaṃ bhaṇīṣi tad atyanupapannam eva | yasmād viśeṣalakṣaṇarahitatvena viśeṣavyavahāra eva nivāryatāṃ na śabdatvaṃ sādhutvaṃ vā taddhitalakṣaṇarahitatvena ca kṛtsu taddhitavyavahāra eva na nivartate śabdatvaṃ sādhutvaṃ veti yathā vā pratyakṣalakṣaṇarahitatvenānumānādau pratyakṣavyavyahāra eva na yukto na tu pramāṇavyavahāro pīti ta¦smād yathā pramāṇajñair nigaditaṃ pramāsādhanatvaṃ sakalapramāṇavyaktyanugatam apramāṇād vyāvṛttaṃ pramāṇasāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ yatsadbhāvāsadbhāvābhyāṃ pramāṇatadābhāsas tattvetaraviśeṣavyavasthāpanam upapadyate tadvad aśeṣaśabdavyaktyanugatam apaśabdād vyāvṛttaṃ śabdasāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ vaktavyaṃ yat sadbhāvāsadbhāvātvāṃ śabdāpaśabdapravibhāgo vyavatiṣṭhate | na ca tathā lakṣaṇābhidhāyivyākaraṇaśāstrāṃtargataṃ kiṃ cid api sūtraṃ paśyāmas tatra vyākaraṇapraṇetṛpraṇītalakṣaṇāhitatvenāpy asyāpaśabdatvam iti | atha samastasādhuśabdānugatam apaśabdād vyāvṛttaṃ sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmānyam eva sādhuśabdānāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ kaś cid vyācakṣīta tad etad asya nirūpitārthābhidhānaṃ | tat khalu sādhutvasaṃjñake sāmānyaṃ svayam asiddham atrārkaṃ katham anyasya vyavasthāpakaṃ syāt | na hi hi tadastitve pramāṇaṃ kiṃ cid utpaśyāmaḥ | tathā hi nā tāvad akṣavyāpāraje vijñāne sādhutvam ātmānaṃ prakaṭayati | yathā ca tvarādijanite vijñāne ghaṭatvavṛkṣatvarītvādi nīlatvamadhuratvospatvādi ca sāmānyaṃ sajātīyeṣv avāṃtarabhedabhinneṣv apy anugataṃ vijātīyebhyo vyāvṛttaṃ ca pratibhāti naivaṃ sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmadhyanugatavyāvṛttapratyayānūḍham atiyatnavṛto pi cakāsti yadi pratyakṣaṃ sādhutvaṃ sāmānyaṃ syāt tadā bhavatiśabde pacatiśabde vā sādhuśabdo yam ity evaṃ samayagraheṇa sati aprasiddheṣv api sādhuśabdeṣu śrūyamāṇeṣu sādhuśabdo yam iti pratītiḥ prādurbhaved ghavṛkṣagavādipratītivan na ca tathā bhavati tasmān na sādhutvaṃ nāma sāmānyaṃ pratyakṣagecaratām āpādya kadācid apy ātmānaṃ prakaṭayati pratyakṣaniṣedhād anumānum api niṣiddhaṃ draṣṭavyaṃ anavadhāritaliṃgasaṃvandhasyānumātum aśakyatvāt sāmānyato dṛṣṭamanasānam atra na saṃbhavaty eva sāmānyenāpi tatpratibaddhakāryādiliṃgānupalabdher iti athācasadeva sādhutvasarva gamyate ity evaṃ kadā cil lālapīpi tad etad api na pramāṇadṛṣṭim anusaradbhiḥ pramāṇīṃkriyate na hy ubhayavādivipratipattyaviṣayaḥ kaś cid āgamo pi sādhutvasadbhāvāvedaka upalabhyate yataḥ sādhutvaviniścayaḥ prādurbhāvam āsādayed vacana mātrasya ca sarvatra sulabhatvān na tato vivādagocarāpannārthaviniścayaḥ saṃvatīti nāgamād api sādhutvādhigamaḥ kartuṃ yukta iti
